Laptops How can I brighten the screen while on the battery?

It is normal that the screen, when running on AC power will be brighter as when it is running on batteries -- at the same brightness setting (in my case, the highest). But I don't like it. I want my screen to be as bright when it's on batteries as when it is running on AC. But how do I do that?

Typically you need to press the Function "Fn" Key along with the increase brightness button which will something sign of "Sun" with ^ kinda sign when you are on battery.

It will be like

Fn + Sun ^ - for increasing the brightness

Cheers

:P I was expecting this answer.

Had it been that easy, i wudn't have posted this thread here. the brightness settings is at the maximum. it can't be set any further up using the Fn + Sun ^ - button. But at this setting, the screen brightness differs when I'm on a battery and when I'm on AC power supply. I wan't it to be as bright as it is when on AC power supply, even if i'm using the batteries.

Now, I was on the Ubuntu live CD and realised that there is a way, while using Ubuntu frm the live cd that i could increase the screen brightness ever further to match that as when the laptop is running on AC power. It's as easy as pushing the slider all the way to the right ignoring advisories that doing so will mean increased battery consumption.

Now, I'm on XP. Okay try this. Plug in the AC adapter line to your laptop, the screen with brighten up. then take it off, it will dim. :) see? That is what i don't want. and this cannot be controlled using the Fn + Sun ^ - keys. So help!!!

I am on XP, on my dell machine i didn't found dimness while plugging adapter out or in. Brightness remains the same, whether on adapter or not.

Which brand are you using ??

compaq presario f700. i read somewhere (googled it) that XP does not come with such a solution!!!! weird. i think it is an OS issue and has to be adjusted using some settings, and I don't know which. had it been a hardware issue, I wudn't have been able to have the full brightness setting on Ubuntu. there i have the same brightness irrespective of whether i'm on batteries or AC power adapter.

yes. it happens on my toshiba laptop too ;)

I have been using RivaTuner for adjusting brightness and color controls! I am not sure though if you can adjust the settings for different brightness in different modes (plugged in and on battery)!

Ok guys, heres how to fix it: Goto your power settings tab and select profile as always on (AC power). That shud fix ur issue :)

AFAIK, wen running on battery power, the laptop profile prob throttles these things to save batt life, simple :) disable that and ur done :P

PS: Batt life WILL take a hit of course :P
