Storage Solutions How good is Firewire 800?

Hi...I had plans of buying an 1TB portable HDD, as my current HDDs are running low on space. I am using Apple MacBook Pro, which has firewire 800 port and kinda read that it has better transfer speed, which is very important. USB 2.0 is kinda slow considering the fact that I do a lot of transfer to and fro.

I need your advice on firewire 800. How good it really is? Also, is it worth that extra cash?

Well, I get to max out the 80MB/s limitation of my WD 2TB a lot of times on my MacAlly FW800 casing.

My 1TB USB 2.0 WD Basic External drive goes to around 40MB/s max at times. YMMV of course.

1TB portable HDD with Firewire is costing double that of 1TB with USB...making me think twice..
