how much is Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM?

OEM? Buddy OEM license is for PC manufacturers only... Buy the retail Windows 7 Home Premium OS from LetsBuy for 5.6k (Rs. 6250 (Original Price) - Rs. 625 (AMEXLB Coupon) = Rs. 5625)

^^ Sorry for the late pitch but OP the OEM edition of Windows 7 is a 32-bit version only, even if you pick it up from a local assembled hardware shop, not much use these days where the prices of RAM are so low most people end up purchasing a 4GB ValueRAM module for as low as ~1200/- quid.

So I say get the retail edition from Microsoft's home site itself -- Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 7, Buy Windows 7 Online at Microsoft Store.

Hope this hepled, Sire. Cheers!!

The disk will be either 32/64 bit or both, but the key can be used in either. Just get a disk from a friend or net.

I too have a similar problem..

I got a new lappy. it came without any Windows 7 DVD. Since the laptop shipped with a lot of useless software installed, i wanted to perform a clean install. However due to the lack of an installation media, i was wondering where should i get the installation media from? None of my friends have a legit licence copy...

Since I have a valid Windows serial number, can i download a ISO file from a p2p site and use that in conjunction with my serial number.. Is there any risk in trying this method out?

It will not be a problem as long as you have a valid serial key. Just get a copy from a friend or from torrents. Ensure that you get an original disk copy, one which is not modified in anyway. To do this, check the size and the MD5 hash. If they checkout properly, you have a proper copy.

Also, do not delete all the partitions, especially the recovery partition. Also backing up the recovery partition is a good thing. And ensure you have all the requisite drivers for all the hardware.

One you format the partition, and install the version of 7 which your laptop came with, just enter the serial key on the backside of your laptop. it will not activate online mostly, you amy have to activate via phone.

I did just that, and my copy of Win 7 passed validation without any problem. Of course be careful with your source, some ISOs may contain viruses, trojans etc.

Have a similar query.. So posting in here..

I recently bought a playbook for my wife and am getting her HP DV4 lappie for my use.. Was planning to get a new lappie myself but canceling it due to this trade

I have a HP DM1z as well which she'd use for word processing and such.. I had put 6 GB (2gb + 4 gb) RAM in it (Win 7 basic 64 bit).

So coming to the scenario. The DV4 came with Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit OEM (3gb RAM 2+1) and with only a one click recovery option. There was no copy of Win 7 backup disck/DVD which was given. I want to put the 4 GB stick from DM1 to this one and remove all crap HP software and hence have to put the 64 bit version of Win 7. Wanted to ask whether I could just run an upgrade on this with any original Win 7 disc and get the 64 bit on this OEM license? Or should I format the partition and do a clean install?

Appreciate any help on this..

One click backup usually means there's some hidden volume on disk with full os on it with the HP crap. If you want to switch from 32 bit to 64 bit with same license, its possible. You just need the original 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium disk. You cant install home basic over home premium.

You should format and do a clean install since you're switching from 32 to 64 bit. Backup all important data from disk before doing this.
