I am planning to get a new PSU. Wanted to know how much power will i require (in watts)

My usage:

250 gm SATA Hard Disk, heavy use - torrents

DVD writer, light use

Floppy drive, rarely used

DG33FB mobo,

E6550 core 2 duo procy,

2x1 gb transcend 800 mhz RAM

1 or 2 cabinet fans.

No graphics card, no other addons

Strictly speaking, by calculations a 400w shud do, since there's no gfx card, jus 1 HDD and 1 optical.

get a powersafe500w if budget's real low or in case u're planning to invest in a gfx card later on, get a CorsairVX450w or the Coolermaster Extremepower600w..

^^ +1

if you are super broke you should be able to use a local 400w generic psu cuz quite some people survive on that with basic config like urs.

Then again if you have money to spend why not be safe than wait for the smoke to come out of the case before you get a better one..... lol I am exagerating a lil bit

P.S. please guys don't pounce on me for suggesting generic psu lol

Sata HDD - 10-11 W on usage , 8-9 on idle

DVD Writer - 5W

E6550 - 65W (?)

So it will definitely be much lower than 400W

My suggestion is go for 500W cooler master or POV with extra 2 Fans

AS U said that torrents heavy load.... it mean U will be running pc for at least for 10-12 hrs per day...

I am not sure if it is same in comparison but
I have a pc running almost 24x7 with p3 650mhz/one dvd writer/one cd writer/one 80 gbhdd/one lan card/ one usb card/one usb bracket/one internal modem on a generic psu I got in 2000

though it blue screens if i add another hdd sometimes

Depends what you plan to put in it later.
