How often should we replace Aquaguard?

At my home since more than 10 years now I'm using the same Eureka Forbes Aquaguard Nova model water filter/ purifier. And since then it is been serviced by eureka persons on regular basis.

Today an their sales executive came at my doorstep and said that a new model have launched and that aquaguard should be compulsorily replaced after every 4-5 years and we must buy a new one as it keeps on loosing its filtering capability year by year thus becoming useless no matter how frequently you service it. I was like :scared14: :confused1:.

But in my friends and people around, I never heard anybody buying a new one unless and until prescribed by the service personnel or otherwise if incase the device itself went faulty which imo very rarely happens.

So guys I need your inputs whether its a fact or myth to change it every 4-5years.

All you have in that is

Candle
Activated carbon
Ultraviolet tube.

Candle replacement as per water quality.
Same applies for carbon also.
Rule of thumb is replace it yearly. Or six monthly of water is too bad.

Ultraviolet tube if it starts, no need to replace

At my home , we have kenstar purifier since like my childhood and we did routine maintenance as stated above and never faced any water related stuff.

Finally ended up replacing unit with RO when water quality was bad with high TDS.

agree wtih pratikb

Every filter applies same rule.

Main equipment which does the job are
1. Candle
2. Activated carbon
3. Ultraviolet tube.

These needs to be replaced 6 monthly as these only goes bad, not the whole filter itself.

Our AG is over 12 years old..... (there was a period of almost 2 years - 2005-2007 when it was not in use)

We have stuck to AG - AMC & not had any problem till date with their service [Mumbai].

Replaced Candles etc a couple of times.

For the past 1 year - there are times when a 'beeping' sound is produced & which continues for long & at rare moments the water stops too. Has the unit reached it's "end-of-life?" ... my wife wants to buy a new one now & the AG guys who keep coming over too have been suggesting the same (of course their opinion does not matter to me). I am not sure the UV thingy is doing it's job as it is meant to - ???

How can I test that the water coming out is indeed filtered & pure - without taking a sample to the lab ?

you can buy a water test kit or ask the aquaguard guys to bring it,

Thanks - Will check if the latter AG guys can do it - OR
Where do I get to buy this 'water testing kit' and how much does it roughly cost ?
- Is it something like this

Ideally I would have preferred something like this one - http://www.discovertesting.com/prod...atid=7&loc=show&headTitle=City Water Test Kit

(most of the above are really really expensive -)

Beeping sound comes when the crystal in UV chamber detects impurities in water. This should generally not happen if the inlet filter and rest of filters in line, do their job properly. You should ask the ag guys to change the inlet filter candle, the activated carbon crystals and the third filter. There are three filters in all I think. After these, the water gets UV treatment.

the beeper is designed to give away after 3 years or so.
it is for them to make sure that you call the A.S.S after a fixed amount of time , to stick their A.S.S.

we had our beeper replaced by the Ag guy but not on the company maintenance.
the AMC on aqua guard is a big joke. the service person gets only 10 bucks per service.
there is nothing scheduled to replace except the once in a year replacement of candle and carbon

tell the aqua guard to only replace the candle and carbon yearly .
you yourself can disassemble the purifier and clean the candle and carbon periodically.

hell even you can replace the candle and carbon yourself.

Just get a basic TDS meter like this
http://www.ebay.in/itm/Digital-RO-T...658?pt=IN_Home_Appliances&hash=item35c6203aca
Aquaguard guys do use similar meter for water testing.

Thanks for all the pointers .... Getting hold of original aquaguard spares is very difficult. I am aware that general replacement of Candle/Carbon is very easy.

Thanks - this is interesting. Does the RO stand for 'reverse-osmosis'? - (I am not clear about what this is RO)
We have the AG i-Nova model which I do not think has the RO thingy ?

Yup! RO stand for 'reverse-osmosis' and TDS meter measures concentration of dissolved solid impurities in water. It is the easiest way to measure the quality of drinking water.

the guy works in eureka forbes and does this replacement thing from the company. it costs only a fraction of the AMC.
the candle and carbon has proper bill of the company , so rest assured , you get a original piece.

You will have to be more specific, when you say : pure or impure.

TDS is one of the primary measures that everyone (right up to WHO) uses for classifying water as 'potable' or not.

^^ i have a TDS meter and when i dip it in $hit, it gives me 2000 as reading. I guess, TDS upto 2000 is okay for consumption :p
TDS meter are not useful when you test anything other then drinking water:facepalm:
and drinking water with TDS rating 2000 should not be consumed if you want to stay healthy.:finger:
