Hi... My CPU has only HDD capacity of 320 GB,
Space is almost full, so plannin to buy a 1 TB HDD...
How will i attach this extra HDD to my system?
Can I do it myself?

Thanks in advance....

Yes you can easily do it yourself considering you know how to plug in 2 wires and can handle a screw driver.
Can you tell us which type of interface you have IDE or SATA ?

It's going to be a SATA. Now who's gonna have a 1 TB IDE :death:

Open side panel.

Shove the new HDD in HDD cage found in the front half of the cabby.

Align them with screw holes. Screw 'em but not very tight.

Connect 4 pin Power cable. It's very obvious. Just look at the conenctor at the back of the HDD and look for matching cable in your Cabby.

Last connect the Data cable. Must be a slim 'Red' wire. Conenct one end to HDD and the other to the Mobo(Again you just have to look for matching slot on mobo)

Building PC is like putting Lego pieces and things connect where they are meant to go , so dont worry.

Open up your box(cabby), and check the HDD, see if two thin cables are connected (one, usually red in colour is smaller than the other), if this then your HDD is sata

else

if you find a thick cable + a molex cable then yours is an IDE

Two years back when I knew nothing about computers, I bought a 1tb SATA drive and then I realised my mobo only supported IDE. Wish I had asked too :P

Hmmmmm.... :)

@ H20, @ CA50, @Xtechmaniac, @ hash... Thanks a ton Guys....!

I've some doubts- so if I just connect the HDD as u said, so does my computer show another HDD or does it show as a continuation of the existing HDD?

And is SATA more advanced than IDE?

Thanks

Sata interface is faster then IDE

so if I just connect the HDD as u said, so does my computer show another HDD or does it show as a continuation of the existing HDD?
After connecting the hdd, right click on my computer>manage>disk management, there you will find your HDD.
Now you can create partition?
