Hi
We all know that these DVD ROMs that come around are all in 1 year warranty. And I don't know why they provide so short warranty. But I had my DVD ROM and it broke off after warranty. It took only CD's and didn't detected any DVDs even during the Boot. So, all I did was ripped it off by myself and and probably found the problems why these DVD ROMs break down every time.
The inside is pretty simple but has some crucial things.
The first thing, the round case where you put your DVDs,every time you eject the tray, most of you might find it pretty clean. But guess where all the dirt go.Well, after the tray goes in there is a gear sytem working inside which brings up the the lens system and the cd or DVD hole is held by a rubber wheel and all the dust sticks to that rubber wheel and form there a few is transported to the lens. But the major dust to the lens comes from the DVD surfaces only.
All this could be avoided while inserting a disk.Always insert a clean disk and if not, clean it with some sort of liquid cleaner. And if you have messed your DVD ROM a lot then you can use a good lens cleaner.
And there is another thing of which I am not pretty sure but this might be a strong reason for slow reading of DVDs and CDs.There are two sliding thin rods on which the lens slides while reading disks. So, for the smooth sliding of the lens the rods have grease or some sort of lubricants on it,which help the lens slide properly. If those lubricants are worn off with regular use then you might need to open the case and with the help of a syringe with it's nose bent you can apply the lubricant.
Note:be careful while opening and applying the lubricant.Open only the lower side and not the top and apply the lubricant from there only.If requested I can post some pictures also.
Regards
