How To Change The Bit Rate of An MP3 File

Why Hindi? :S And even that isn't spelled properly :p Anyways,

Changing the bitrate of MP3 files will not make any difference. It will only take up extra space. Let 128 be 128. Next time before downloading check the bitrate of the file.

Once encoding is done there is no use recoding it to higher bitrate. If you want 320kbps audio you either download 320kbps or higher bitrate audio or if you are ripping cd then use 320kbps while ripping only.

After its done there is no benefits of converting it to higher bitrate.

thres no point in setting a higher bitrate...it wud just add to the disk space and not help at all with quality...do that when u r ripping the CD's

You can use a number of utilities to change the bitrate of your MP3 files, either up or down.

Without raining on your parade, I would like to understand why you want to do it, since you haven't mentioned.

If you're seeking higher quality, it ain't there, as most people here have already told you. As a matter of fact there will be a reduction inquality, because the tool (whatever you use), will code up to a wav file (lossless) and again apply a lossy process (MP3).

However there are some specific situations where you might want to do it. For example a sound editor will be able to store more information in a larger file, so if you're doing reprocessing or editing you may want to upsample the file. This is specially true of dinky little voice recorders which store voice at their default 96 kbps or 64 kbps. Audio editors can't do much with those files, and once you're done the re-encode makes a mess of the edit.

Maybe a bit of a background will help. And welcome to TE! An intro is always nice to read so do drop by and tell us a bit about yourself in the intro section.

You can only downgrade the bitrate. If you've got a 320kbps file, you can downgrade to 160kbps and make the file a whole lot smaller, you probably won't notice a loss in quality. Use dbpoweramp.

but if you increase the bitrate (it is technically possible), it'll be of no use.
