Storage Solutions How To Determine that DVD+RW discs can no longer be used?

i thought that a DVD-RW can be used as long as there are no scratches on its writing surface.

But then at my local store the shopkeeper DVD+Rw do not need scratches to be termed not usable.

not long ago i thought my sony DVD+RW has gone dead because it could not be detected on my comp when i inserted it.

But yesterday i tried a trick and my non readable (sony) DVD+RW started writing and reading again.:hap2:

so when to decide throwing away your DVD-RW?:huh:
and another query
the box pack of moser baer,sony mentions that have lifetime replacement warranty.
but store keeper limits it to just one write.
So where can one get their DVD-RW replaced in case of failure.

The disks were not detected so in nero selected an iso image without inserting a disk. When asked for a disk i inserted the not working one. The drive took about 5 minutes to detect it. Then:-D
Asked me whether should i erase the disk. Another 10 min and the disk was up and running. Did a full format later and the disk was as good as new.

That lifetime replacement warranty is for manufacturing defects. not anything else.

so if a device does not last long isnt that a manufacturing defect.?

if they are not supposed to last lifetime why mention?

they should change it to first time than lifetime then.

ya even i as surprised. i could not try on my old pc bcoz those disks would just hang up my pc so never thought of doing that "trick".

i know that but i gave you an example too.
so i wanted an elaborate answer whether a physical observation can be done to infer that disk is of no use.
