How to record a live stream

Hello,

My manager has come up with a requirement where we need to record a live streaming video. Live streaming would be like the IPL matches that were broadcast recently or WWDC.
Are there any apps that do this. I am pretty new at this recording thingy, so all the suggestions are welcome.

VLC can do it. I've done it for E3 2011 before and required a bit of tweaking to get it right the first time. Follow the links below:

Thanks Gannu. Seems this is not required anymore coz of the amount of ports that needed to be opened for getting this to work, And yes Websense too :|
