ok i have wanted a hp laptop dv5 series for a long freaggin time now. but i cant be bothered to spend 65k or so for the new intels. what im thinking is to get the amd ones which are around 40k the 1106ax. what say guys? i want to know the entry level start of hp lappies ? anything cheaper than the 1106 ? i am not going to game on this at all. just internet, movies and basic other stuff thats it. i have another amd lappie and very happy with the same so no issues with me for AMD. please suggest asap thanks a lot.

@Rahulmig: U just overshot his budget by >10k + you suggested a 13" which he doesnt need for basic stuff :P

@jesal:

DV5-1102TU INTEL DC T3200 2.0 3GB DDR2 250GB DVD RW Home Basic 15.4 - ~42k n intel to boot :P

Meanwhile, for even cheaper laptops, just look at compaq. Ownd by HP as well. Dont look as good I guess, but functionality wise, should be sufficient.

never ever buy AMD based laptops....trust me....i dont have time to explain as i am travelling....but trust me my bro has a dv6 series based on AMD Turion x2 and it sucks

This is around 36k, latest interms of tech. specs. with one drawback i.e. w/o gfx card but it is based on gm45 chipset with intel® GMA 4500MHD which out perform's nvidia 8200m. I bought one of these one month back for non gaming purpose !

You can get this same thing or better specs with 9300gs gfx but in singapore, china, etc @ same or less price !

This is what you will get for 65k :) :

i am keen on a 1106ax as of now. but the price i am getting minimum is 44k. i currently have a amd laptop as well i have no problems at all with the same. why do people hate amd so much. there is a 10k diff. between the same. nothing i liked is below 55k in intel. i am on amd lappy since 2 yrs no issues what so ever, only reason for change is that i am bored thats it. why the amd hatred so much. people do love amd over intel in desktops right. i have max budget of 45k. i am getting the compaq centrino2 model for 45k as well but does not look as good ghrrrrr

Just a tip :

If you don't want an AMD config (although there's a AMD turion version with HD3450 GFX for 44K),

Go to McCann Infosys at Lammy and he'll get you DV5-1102TU for 41K or less(haggle a lot and you might be able to pick it up for 40K) with free goodies from HP and from their side.

the 1102 has no gfx card at all. the 1106 comes loaded with everything i need, i dont really care about the amd bit since i have one and no issues with the same at all. its good really. its just a mental block. can anyone get my best deal for the 1106 in bombay. minimum i have got is 44k but i did read 42k elsewhere here as well. thanks a lot. not sure about the color as well since its some brown.

When things turn nasty, something conks off...

spares/replacements are quite expensive!

And I've noticed HP notebooks run a little hotter than expected...

Nevertheless,still a good brand !:P

Why Intel is better than AMD in mobility products?

the Turion will show signs of sluggishness first and this is from personal experiance since I have HPs, Dells, Gateways and IBMs

in my household for personal testing

Reviews of laptops running these CPUs seem to indicate that the Intel equipped laptops are getting higher marks both in battery life and overall performance. The newest Intel mobile CPUs available right now which Intel calls “Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology featuring the Intel Core™2 Duo processor” appear to also be an even greater improvement over AMD’s offerings with faster performance and lower power consumption.

As a general Rule of Thumb Intel Chip Set M'Boards = Reliability and stability where as AMD Chip Set M'Boards offer better speed and image rendering but are not always as stable. If you are looking at playing games the AMD would be better where as if you are looking at long term reliability and stability the Intel Platform would suit you better.

I'd go with Intel.

Some benefits over AMD laptop offerings:

- Highly efficient throttling of the CPU saving battery life

- More powerful per Mhz, also saving battery life

- built-in wireless

So go for an Intel based notebook or wait till the AMD Puma & Griffin platform based notebooks are out !
