We certainly hope you haven't just spent your hard earned money on a webOS device when reading this. In today's third quarter results report, the computer behemoth announced that it "will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones."

According to HP, "The devices have not met internal milestones and financial targets." To put it better in plain language, they did not sell enough webOS devices - hardly a surprise given the lack of developed apps for the webOS ecosystem.
The beautifully looking OS might just continue living on in printers or cars' entertainment/navigation systems, or get licensed to an interested party. However, as far as mobile devices are concerned, it is all over.

Now this is really sad. WebOS had a potential to be a great OS. HP ruined it all. Why bother buying Palm if you cannot provide a good future to its innovations ?

HP to discontinue webOS Phones and Touchpad devices

HP to officially discontinue webOS phones and Touch pad devices :(

While this is certainly understandable considering the market share they had. What about Pre 3? Pre 3 actually had potential to compete with other OS phones. webOS was an excellent software but they ruined it by releasing phones that had inferior hardware and specs. Already Symbian is getting phased out and MeeGo too, so what is next? Blackberry????

I think pretty soon we will have a three headed race of Android, iOS and WP7. This is just sad.

Re: HP to discontinue webOS Phones and Touchpad devices

this is the worst move ever. first bad marketing for a very good OS (and tab/phones). not to mention how bad it is for the dev's working on webos (if any) .
if i am not wrong didn't they announce a 64 gb version of the tab like yesterday? lol.

hope some other company takes over or HP decides to make the OS available to other phone companies.

Sad to see such a good OS with smooth, polished UI and cool gestures(those who have used a palm pre will know about all these) going down this way :( hope either htc or samsung buys webos.

I am a new user of Palm. recently got Pixi Plus just to try webOS. And trust me UI very nice with card system,Gesture is pretty useful. and Multi tasking is solid on webOS. Handles as many apps as u want.

Really sad to hear this news. HP shouldn't have bought Palm period.
