hi guys

m planning to buy a LCD TV(37 or 40) around diwali.i presently have a lg 29" CRT + Sony dav-dz120k home theater system ,now discontinued but similar to this :

DAV-DZ150K : DVD Home Theatre System : Home Theatre System : Sony India

now the problem is that since i have a lot of x264 videos in 720p/1080p, i cant continue with the current DVD player.hence the htpc.

with the motherboard i have, i only can route the audio through my output channels to a receiver. But the Sony, again gives a problem. It only has 2 channels for input.

I need to have a cheap solution just for getting the inputs, as i am fine with the Sony speakers. the SUB although is passive and has connecting wires similar to that of other speakers. All the receivers i have searched on the internet have the component video style wire connecting the subs(don't know the name of the wire, help me here). So i assume, there will be a problem connecting the sub from the Sony system to another receiver as well.

If i could find a cheap solution to the problem, it would be nice as i currently don't want to spend much on the audio part of the system.

This is the back layout of the home theater system.

If you're talking about your motherboard's 5.1 output to the Sony, then...

Nothing you can do. You'll have to live with stereo audio which is simulated for all 5 channels + sub, and find a surround effect you like.

The Sony builds in all the amps required for the speakers. You'll have to run a stereo analog out (front speaker) from the PC to the input of the home theater. It's a stereo headphone-2RCA cable, available from Rs 25 onwards at your neighborhood cassette shop :)

There is not other solution, and no other eceiver is compatible with the speakers supplied with the Sony system, as they are typically 3.2 ohms or even lower. This is to ensure that they can actually be driven by the class D amp inside the Sony.

If your system has Dolby pro logic/Pro logic 2 (the HTS in the link claims to have) , you should be able to recover some surround info from the stereo input. It wont be true 5.1, but somewhat better than just stereo :)

any other home theater system that comes for cheap and has 5.1ch inputs?

& any idea of what o would get if i sold these off?

The cheapest is the Z-5500, followed quickly by the Onkyo HTS3100 (or somthing like that), which I was considering very actively as a gaming system. the first should be around 17, the second around 20, and may be worth the step up.

i want to sell this htib dav-dz120k off. its in perfect working condition. same model from sony+ usb feature in it comes for 15k. would like to sell it for 6.2k + shipping.

i have the complete contents including box. the set still works flawlessly.

hate putting it here but am not sure of selling it. if someones interested, i will put up a thread in the market.
