Huawei is on an spree. Having only just announced their quad core packing Honor 2 mid range quad core smartphone for $300, Huawei announced their Ascend D2, which packs a 5" display and a quad core, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it comes early 2013 to China (first).

Huawei Ascend D2

The Huawei Ascend D2 is ready to become their flagship for early 2013. Packing flagship and next generation specifications, the Ascend D2 is a 5" smartphone, a.k.a phablet. Let's see what's in the innards of this phablet.
  • 1.5 GHz quad core Huawei K3V3 (?) chipset
  • 16 core GPU
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 13 MP camera, 1080p video
  • 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 5" display, HD or Full HD resolution
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The chipset is Huawei's in house designed and latest K3V3 chipset. The K3V2 was based off ARM Cortex A9. We are hoping that the new K3V3 chipset packs ARM Cortex A15 cores. The GPU packs 16 cores, and should perform like that too. 2 GB of RAM is almost certain (Honor 2 packing 2 GB of RAM).

A massive 13 MP camera shows that the flagship will be a multimedia powerhouse. We cannot tell if the display is HD or Full HD, but going by the recent trend of Full HD smartphones being announced with 5" displays, we are inclined to believe that the Ascend D2 packs a Full HD display.

A massive 3,000 mAh battery should easily power this device for more than a day's worth. The Huawei Ascend D2 packs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and launches early 2013. Expected price tag is somewhere in the $400-$500 range.
