CPU/Mobo i5 2400 or i5 3550 ?

Looking to get a Core i5 setup and these two offers came up.

Usage:
1.Strictly office work.
2.Should run a virtual machine.
3.4 gb or 8gb DDR3 support.

Will a Corsair CX430 run this with a low end PCI EX card and 1 TB HDD?
Also, plz suggest the cheapest mobo that can go with this combo, just needs to run this perfectly.Merrier if slight overclocking is possible with air cooling.

Thanx and regards

For running a virtual PC it's better to get a FX8350 based PC which is lot superior to i5's in multithreaded activities.

@Imrahn go for the following --

Intel setup --
Intel Core i5 3550 ~12500/-
GIGABYTE-B75M-D3H ~4500/-
Corsair Vengeance 4GB x4 1600MHz ~5800/-
NZXT Gamma + 2 x120mm fans ~3500/-
[rest from what you already have]

^^ Above RIG is not over-clock capable but it is highly efficient vis-á-vis AMD's FX class processors.

AMD RIG --
AMD FX-8350 ~12500/-
ASUS M5A97 ~6500/-
Corsair Vengeance 4GB x4 1600MHz ~5800/-
Seasonic S12II 520W ~4400/-
NZXT Gamma + 2x120mm fans ~3500/-
[rest from what you already have]

^^ Above RIG is over-clock capable and has a higher power draw (125W from processor vs. 80W in Intel) and therefore warrants a better SMPS.

Take your pick, Cheerio!

For your purpose, I can't find any reason to spend more money on 3550.
For 1 VM and 1 client 2400 is enough. But if plan to run VM server and many clients, it would be advisable to use a FX8120 which costs lower than even a 2400 alongside 16GB of RAM.

I'm more concerned about its higher cost than 2400 and specially that of FX-8120.

Ummm... it costs ~12500/- on flipkart.com, it will be around same price OR cheaper on street.

Couple that with the GIGABYTE-B75M-D3H and you have a cheap system under ~16000/-; whilst AMD processors are all around ~9500/- +6500/- on the motherboard, cheaper and inefficient they are compared to the nimble Intel offerings.

In-fact the Intel Core i5 2400 can easily hold its own against the AMD FX-8150 --> AnandTech - Bench - CPU
AMD FX-8320 costs close to ~12000/- which pits it against the Core i5 3550 where again the performance in multi-thread environment is stilted towards AMD whilst fast parallel threaded applications and programs benefits majorly from Intel's improved IPC.

Hope this puts through my point. =|
