^^ not really. Its IPS so the price is ok.

But I was hoping for around 15K and planning to sell my T220. 20K is out of my budget :( T220 stays

IPS in 15k is still a dream. There aren't even S-PVA's available at that price.

The "e" in e-IPS I guess stands for "economical" which they are able to manufacture at a profitable cost. S-IPS I presume may have a better color gamut than e-IPS, but I expect the color reproduction on an e-IPS to be way better than TN panels.

last I checked Dell's 2007FP (20" 4:3 S-IPS) was priced upwards of 20k

Not a dream really. According to the price given at Australian websites, the monitor was supposed to be around $300 and that means around Rs 15,000 in India.

19K is fine too but just not within my budget. Specially not when you have bought a 15K monitor just two months back :p

BTW, IPS is not better than S-PVA. But of course, it will be a lot better than TN.

Even i feel that the Screen is "not lill" but very expensive.. not crapping out the thread but just a fact if its HD Screen or so then it should be able to go over 1680x1050..if its still @ 1680x1050 reso then doesnt make sense whatsoever to spend 20k for this screen.. yes it has better features like mountable and you can adjust it vertically as well as diagonally... but for that 20k doesnt make sense.. would rather consider Benq 22" HD which is just for 13k or so and you also get a HDMI port in it plus some USB port if am not mistaken..

15k is still thinkable that too just coz its Dell and some added adjustable features.

err... TN and IPS are way different bro.

Even Dell has TNs in that price range. Agreed that BenQ E2200HD is a very VFM monitor but likes shud be compared with likes.

People were willing to buy the 2408WFP (S-PVA) for 26k when a revered member posted a deal here :p. Its another matter that it is now priced 30-40k something.

Its a good deal when you are getting this at this price. Once Dell has tested waters, who knows how much this will be priced eventually.

If dell can price the same monitor for $300 in Australia then why this much difference in the pricing in India....though the pricing in India hasnt been officially declared by dell and the dell reps dont even have clue about this monitor. Yes the panel is different and dats y the interest but.....still if the price you quote is official thru ur own sources then it is definately costly....

No point selling off T220 for a dell 22"
If you plan to upgrade the screen , like 23" / 24" go for a Dell in that case. (possibly one with native resolution 1920 x 1080)

Everything is dirt cheap in AUS. Things are different in India man... :(

It wasn't about inches only. It was the lure of IPS. But prices :(

Prices in Australia and India are nearly on par, I agree this monitor has a better panel, but yet think 20k is overpriced. Man I was so looking for this monitor for 15k :)

Benq makes me feel shortchanged with a 16:9 display, they should introduce a 23" monitor at 14-15k, I want my screen size :)

This price is inclusive of taxes and shipping. I think 15k +vat +shipping wud add atleast 2k, and launch prices in India are always a bit on the higher side.

Believe me, I don't wanna pay a penny more but if it is a confirmed IPS panel, it is totally worth it.

Dell has a nasty policy of beginning their sales with IPS panels and later on switching to PVA panels as in the case of 2007WFP and 2407WFP (Not 2408WFP which has always been a S-PVA) after they have caught everyones attention.

The new 16:9 "Full HD monitors" are a marketing ploy.

Actual screen dimensions/viewable screen area (on the spec sheet) on 22" (or rather 21.5") 16:9 monitors like BenQ E2200HD and Dell's S2209W is 476.16 x 267.84 mm (18.76" x10.5" W x H).

That of 16:10 22" monitors like 2209WA and 2208WFP is 473.76 x 296.1 (18.7" x 11.7") i.e. you are losing height if you are getting a 22" "FullHD". A very disproportionate bargain if you intend to use the monitor for anything other than watching movies.

However, I wud truly recommend a 24" 16:9 1080p like the S2409W (531.36 mm x 298.89 mm or 20.94" x 11.76") compared to a 24" 16:10 like the E248WFP (520 mm x 325.6 mm or 20.4" x 12.8").

There is nothing very interesting in the 23" 16:9 segment eg. S2309W as yet (509.18 mm x 286.42 or 20.05"x 11.28").

Clearly, the 22" 16:9 and 16:10 have similar widths but the height of the 16:9 is about 1.5" lesser and is very noticeable. Cramming that much amount of pixels with a pixel pitch of 0.248 (mm/pixel) is not a very good idea. Your gpu wud have to work overtime on a crappy display.

The 23" 16:9 has slightly smaller height and width (about 0.5" in both fronts) as compared to a 16:10. This cud have been an interesting segment but there are very few choices yet. You make a few compromises to get that 16:9 res.

All in all, I feel both the S2409W and the 2209WA are leaders in their fronts. Its a personal choice what you want. 16:9 rocks for consoles and movies, but I bet the 2209WA wud be the absolute best for professional work like graphics or even for casual gaming with a somewhat low powered gpu.

These screen sizes have been either directly taken from spec sheets from Dell (not all of which are easily available). I must mention here that all manufacturers don't display the correct dimensions on the website so a casual observer wud not know. For instance the 16:9 S2209W

Dell S2209W Flat Panel Monitor (think of it as the BenQ E2200HD without HDMI)

In the Tech specs they mention W x D x H = 20.6 inches x 8.76 inches x 15.0 inches. You can easily know that this is including the bezel.

Pixel pitch is the only spec you should know to calculate actual screen size.

Actual width = horizontal res x Pixel pitch = 1920 x 0.248 = 476.16mm / 18.7"

Actual height = vertical res x Pixel pitch = 1080 x 0.48 = 267.84mm / 10.5" (what a marketing gimmick. The height including the bezel is 15". checkout the link above.)

I was saving these stats for my review but I guess you should know before you make the choice.

I am just an ordinary guy like you people who wants more bang for his buck. I hate the guys who market these things spreading half truths in an already complicated world :(

Repped! :eek:hyeah:

Hit the nail bang on the head man! I noticed that too. It only looks tolerable when you are watching something. Otherwise looks a bit weird. :p

That is not well summarized :D.

A well summarized thing wud be in the form a of a table and a to-scale graph to show how you guys are being looted into buying a 16:9 22 incher, which is essentially just a wider 19 incher

I have timestamped and saved pages from Dell's website in case they try to change what was there. I don't blame them though. They are in for the money. I just want a good monitor :p

No one knows for certain but Dell has quoted a color gamut of 83% CE1976 unlike other SIPS models which have a wider gamut. that may be good for those who wud just use the standard RGB profile like you and me but it is a sacrifice made for obtaining the low typical GTG response time of 6ms unlike that seen in S-IPS. I just hope it doesn't inherit the input lag of the latter.

VA - Vertical Alignment or IPS - In Panel Switching which is batter? i m using VA happy wit it but want to know about this new monitor
