We have just implemented the improved search functionality here on TE. The improvements over the previous search are:
- Earlier it was not possible to search for a anything less than 4 characters. Now you can search for even a single character. It was very important for a technology forum where there are so many acronyms like IDE, IBM etc
- Earlier the search was not accurate and it would search for exact words. Now it would match for all forms of the word you are searching. For example, a search for "test" would equally match "tests", "testing", "tested", and so on.
- The search results are automatically sorted for relevance. Also older threads are assigned lesser relevance than newer threads.
- The search performance will be much snappier than earlier.
