Laptops In two minds - Asus EEE 900 or Vaio TZ

Now before someone shouts out, "wtf, there isn't any comparison between the two"
After all one is a spanking hot $2500 worth piece of art, the other is a basic, bare bones machine and the only similarity between the two is the small size and weight

Here is why I am confused...
I am trying to sell off my existing main laptop (XPS M1210- which I have already
put up on the TE market) and get the Vaio TZ as a replacement

else, I can retain the XPS and get a EEE 900 (the new 8.9" machine)
and let's not forget that I can get 5-6 of the EEEs for the price of a single TZ

what would you do?

IF i were U, id take the EEE PC :P

+1
I dont know how powerful the sony model you are talking about is. However, if basic tasks (surfing, office, music, movies etc.) is what you gonna do, EEE PC 901 is the way to go :)

Whats your need you it could help if you told us ?

hahaha, I just need a new toy...am bored of the XPS, though I still love it greatly

So with the XPS and EEE combo, I get the following pros:

- the XPS can handle a lot of stuff and is good for an ocasional game or two as well

- the EEE is super portable and I can tuck it in a messenger bag whenever needed

- I save tonnes of money

With the TZ, i get

- an absolutely mind blowing screen and I mean absolutely "blows all other screens away by miles" screen..'looks like a miniature version of the Apple cinema display...

- an absolutely head turner of a machine

- single machine that fits all needs instead of using two

but in the process I lose out on

- zero gaming capabilities

- loads of moolah

why are you inclined towards the sony in the first place..

in fact one wonders..

why not the Macbook Air

why not the XPS 1330..

and coming to the ASUS 900, why not the MSI Wind???

why are you inclined towards the sony in the first place..

frankly, it is the screen.

The macbook air's screen is sweet, but nowhere close to this one

also, the air may be thin, but is a little too big for my taste

Now now abhi, you dont need that now do you?

hehehe, thinking of it, why not? even geeks like to show off once in a while

and coming to the ASUS 900, why not the MSI Wind???

the wind remains an option, by the EEE, I was trying to cover that general low powered and cheap subnotebook category (though the wind isnt out in the market as yet)

Had it been me, I'd opt for the TZ PROVIDED I have 2500USD to burn before I leave the place for home; :D

Damn the screen's too good; pwns the XPS1330 and the likes big-time;

Czar, from ur past laptop and portables' history, I have a strong feeling u'll take home the TZ;

Hehe; I can understand;

U know I was more or less in the same boat [kinda :P] when I'd to choose between the 4850 at 8.5k and the 4870 at 12k; screw temptation and I went ahead with the 4850 and alas! Peace of mind!!! :D

7k saved!!! :D

But the show-off and brag-rights apart, I think the EEE is more valued cos of better functionality for the 520USD price tag;

I saw the TZ ad in The Hindu long time back; they've plans to launch it here it appears [or did it launch?? I'm out of synch with laptops ATM] and once it does, it'd be close to the 100grand price tag; :P

1. The wind is actually out :cool2: (not in India of course, but neither is the EEE900 so i assume you mean the US ;)) Both at Amazon and MSIs own store, tho stock availability is erratic at best and theres some weeks waiting for delivery.

2. If you have a different primary machine, get the Wind. Ideally, I would prefer a primary desktop, but anyway, if it suits ur purpose, the 1210 should still be enough. + not to mention the moolah you save :ohyeah:

I checked out the EEE at the local croma outlet. Its by no means as light as they claim it. its heavier than a brick that size :S

I say its better to check it out first before you plan to buy it. Even though the HCl netbook has not been successful, it looked kinda ok when i tried it.

If I were you, i'd rather prefer the MSI wind 10".

Like others have asked, why not the MSI Wind? If you are deciding on going cheap (EEE) then i feel the Wind makes more sense. But then availability is an issue
