Hey guys,

Recently I opened a thread to get rid of the paypal $$ I had lying around (actually a friend had, not me). So someone asked if it was legal to do that. Later, the thread was closed down, with a reply
We regret to inform you that we cannot allow your thread relating to paypal money exchange in the market section. We have decided not to allow any such deals in the market to avoid any unnecessary problems in the future.

I appreciated the move, and this was the reply I sent

No prob man. Whatever maintains the decorum of the forum. Although I suggest you also get rid of all the Rapidshare threads, their terms and conditions clearly prohibit sale of RS accounts from people other than their resellers. I'm a mod at thinkdigit, and we've had quite a issue there about the rapidshare thing in market section. I had to manually delete all threads from Bazaar for the same. Cheers.

Now, I had expected that all the RS threads will be soon gone, since it is a clear violation of their terms of use

But there are several threads active on the forum(just search), one of the sellers was sensible enough to close down his own thread, and PM the mods about the same, but no reply, naturally he opened the thread again. Here:

I would appreciate if the Techenclave Admin/Mod team is clear about the policies, would've also appreciated if I was told why Paypal exchange and related trades are not suitable for the forum.

I agree with you there completely

I would also like to add a comment on the above. When I saw the thread pop up saying that Rapidshare account for sale I replied saying how it was not according to Rapidshare TOS and replies on the thread were such:

it is not as though we are exchanging a deal worth crores.

There have been 3-4 threads recently with ppl selling rapidshare accounts and the mods should make it clear if this is allowed or not.
 
Yup as the thread i have does not seem to be against RS terms as i'm not buying and reselling which is illegal. Rather converting my points to create new account which is not mentioned anywhere in ToS. So reselling a RS account is against RS terms & condition.

I have also PM'ed Saiyan twice after locking my thread when you mentioned that it was against RS terms & condition. But got no reply from him. Also XT seems to offline for quite sometime...........

I think you thread was closed because you were somewhat doing money conversion from dollars into Rupee which i guess is illegal & against RBI rules & regulation..
 
You're probably right on the paypal thing. I just believe they should've made it clear that's all.

And I'm not sure about your RS thread being legal, you have been privileged to use the account on payment, and only verified resellers have the right to sell account in any way. Then again, that's only my view, and I don't mind if the community thinks otherwise, just that things should be clear.

Exactly for the same reason had locked my thread and Pm'ed the Mods, but after seeing that other people are selling the same around, i Pm'ed both Saiyan and XT, after no reply opened my thread. Will lock it if mods say so...

I'm with the community & my views on RS points to account conversion is not illegal or else RS would have not given the option to convert points to account, also i paid for my account & helping RS by uploading files and paying for the bandwidth to do so.

I bet if i convert an account and say Giveaway: 1 Month RS Premium Account no one will be against it :rofl:

lol .. of-course not, you're not selling anything then, giving away violates nothing, as long as you're not using the acc.
 
is TE enforcing third party TOS now? Do we have to ? I thought we were beyond that after the ebay hot coupons thread :S

Since TE is not a party to the sale ( as that has been the line maintained all along ; especially in the other market issues/disputes threads),and there is no piracy as such involved, how does it get involved?

This might be a dangerous precedent, because if the mods feel that they are liable for this, they may be held liable for all threads in the market section.

Thanks greenhorn for the input. I think you make sense, and in light of your argument, the Rapidshare threads can be left alone.

We'll just wait for the mods to clarify.

You are making an account from your points so I guess that makes it a premium account that you make and then you are selling it. Since you are not a verified seller you clearly are not authorized.
 
I am not sure myself if these threads should be moderated or not. Whether they should is upto the mods. Just saying that any such decision to police the market threads may have other/unintended consequences
 
are u guys paying to use the forum? cos ur talking as if u are.............mods do what they do on a voluntary basis......they have different professions and a life of their own...........with the huge amount of traffic coming in, such things are bound to happen..............all u can do is be a little tolerant ..........if u find a thread or post offensive .......use the abuse/caution button to post.......

No, but... Many unlike me perhaps :P, have contributed in their own way(not with money) and that cannot be just valued with money.

The mods obviously have their own profession, which is why sometimes some people have to highlight these issues and bring it to their notice.

Thats one of the reasons why they have the "Feedback Corner" silly.
 
TOS aside, Paypal is risky stuff since first and foremost we dont want people trading money on the forums. It can open up a lot of loopholes for illegal activity, and you'd agree its best we steer clear of it.

of course i agree and never denied that......my comment was for inconsistent bit......anyway i dont want to get in a flame war..........eddy's made a valuable comment.....
