Here

Comes to ~14k including shipping and stuff. The model number mentioned is of a G2 however it would be wise to call him up and enquire.

The same site lists the 150Gb velociraptor at ~8.5k.

@techie_007 you mentioned in another of your threads the velociraptor being available for 7k.I'm guessing you meant the 80Gb one but hoping you meant the 150Gb one :P Could you Confirm please.Edit:Thanks for the Reps

Wooahhh, why is it that every suggestion thread transforms to SSD vs HDD debate.

@vishalrao : That was a quite informative one.

I would suggest for SSD only if you are into Gaming and that too Online gaming where the load times matter the most. You stand first everywhere ;)

^^ bad advice if you have not ever had the chance to use one.
Having had THE experience, it is simply mindblowing! I hate using my very decent laptop after having gotten used to machines at the labs :(

Dude, no idea how you could come to conclusion that I havent used it (assuming it was directed towards me)

Been into SSDs from long time and for your kind information, I have tested Intel SSDs and have been using a Samsung one on Toshiba Portege R500. Read/Write matters for faster boot up and faster file transfers.

The above can be acheived from taking two drives in RAID 0 config. The only thing which you will notice is the Access time. SSDs have 0.1ms access time. So you will notice a long pdf file open up within a blink. The same in normal HDD takes bit more for the access times.

And MOREOVER it was not my advice to ignore SSDs, I only said if the preferences are faster bootup and faster access which is much needed in gaming then only you can feel worthy. Otherwise the difference of 8 to 12ms of access time is negligible.

Been into SSDs from long time and for your kind information, I possess both Intel SSDs and have been using on Toshibha Portege R500 which has Samsung ones. Read/Write matters for faster boot up and faster file transfers.

I had included a disclaimer for just this possibility

What about data integrity when RAIDing?

I was referring to access times+read speeds. Opening up 7-8 apps in a blink + having my codebase compile within in a minute instead of over 4-5 minutes are features I'd definitely pay for (If I could afford to).

Now that's quite debatable don't you think? There're other real world apps apart from gaming wherein the SSDs devour the HDDs all over!

Agreed. Data integrity goes for a toss in RAID 0. But again if its used as only OS and applications drive, who cares.

True Gannu, With only such files which are more than 70-150MB you will find the "MUCH" difference (depending on the hard drive)

To name a few. Photoshop psd files, Autocad drawings. Pffff cant think of more REAL LIFE scenarios.

Technically for any application/file to open read and access time matters as said by Stalker too. Now the limiting factor or the difference between HDD and SSD.

HDD - 70Mbps to 110Mbps (approx) Read
SSD - 150-250 Mbps Read.
Access time SSD 0.1 vs. Fair HDD 12 ms.

Just as an analogy to this. Think of this.

Whats the point of having Wireless N router which is 300 Mbps (theoritical) and using it for Internet which is maybe 1 Mbps line and complaining that there is no difference in Wireless G and N router.

I would agree that intra file transfer can hit 300 Mbps but again when the Internet itself is only 1 Mbps whats the point in having G or N router.

So its the individuals requirement which would factor in for use of SSD or HDD.

Hope it clarifies.

Hi Ankit,

Is this thru ebay india or using Global Easy buy?

isthe intel G2 Worth buy coz gettign thru ebay for 13k Shipped !!! as this has trim support. is it a worth buy ...

@ ankit, Seeing your rig, I would say its worth. You may also think of deferring it so that you can have a decent review of OCZ Vertex 2 which is much faster than Intel. Initially INtel X25 was rated very high, but developments by OCZ has given a run for the money to Intel.

^^ very valid point there.. Wait for more reviews of the new OCZ Vertex based on the sandforce chipsets to come out. If things go well, Intel will probably end up dropping prices a bit
