Budget Above 40k Iphone 13 pro vs pixel 7 pro

So I'm at a position where both the phones cost the same, the pixel being brand new and the iphone 6 months old. Which phone should I get? I have been an android user forever and my concern is the phone should last me 3-4 yrs without any hitch. So which phone do you guys think i should get?

Decide on OS. For an android user like me, iOS is just bad & I can't live with it. Might be the same the other way around as well for an iOS user, I can't say.

A friend of mine switched from android to iOS & switched back within a few months. Another friend of mine carries 2 smartphones, an android & another iPhone. Then there are many iPhone users whom I know who use iPhone without any issues, some use it for status symbol as well.

There are many small stuff which android does much better than iOS or iOS simply lacks it that it will annoy a long-term android user, if you used those features. Stuff I have observed - no file manager, tough time connecting to a PC, no T9 dialling on dialler, poor call log (logs everything at one place, not for me), tough time handling unsupported file formats (like in android, I can just download & send any file - even if the phone can't run/open it - helpful in my office work), quick toggles at the top dock or whatever doesn't turn off BT/WiFi (just disconnects currently connected device), turning back on WiFi or reconnecting WiFi at midnight 12, etc. You can surely find a lot of youtube videos on what iOS lacks & what iOS does well.

Not intending to start android vs iOS war but those are just stuff I personally observed on iOS that are usually not discussed. So decide on OS first.

Using a p6 pro. ios has always felt very restrictive UI wise. And then there are things like Truecaller wont show you caller id if you receiving a call from an unknown number for first time. You have to go to truecaller app and search.

I suggest you go to an Apple store and check the software first hand and get the iphone if you think you can like it.

It depends on what kind of user you are. If you are a super Android user then the switch will be a tougher pill to swallow. But if you were very casual user then it'll be easier.

Yes, iphones might be lacking some features a normal Android user is used to. But same is also true for pixels. Customisation are limited here as well.

Only you can decide on that. Go to the showroom & check it out, and watch some videos on features iOS lacks vs android.

For me, living with stock android is also a bit of a hassle as I use Samsung's One UI which has more features over stock android implementation. I'll consider myself a power user though.

For most casual users, OS doesn't matter, they will just adjust to new ways of doing stuff on iOS vs android.

App quality on iOS is still better than on Android. It was true a decade ago, it's still the same. If you are a professional and want something which won't fail you and just work consistently at all turns it'll be the iPhone. However, it's a typically restrictive OS, a bit too much really. Every day you will think oh so this won't work like it does on Android, hmm I'll have to let this go. The list just doesn't seem to end. But like I said, the apps are simply better. It's really a difficult decision. You won't understand anything by going to a store btw, it's a long term thing!

There is also lack of high quality FOSS projects on iOS. Have kept switching between both the OSes in the past and now fully into Android. I didn't had an app crash for such a long time and some of the FOSS apps on android even blows out the best of the paid apps I have seen on iOS. Android had lack of high quality apps in the past. But Android catch-ed up for the most part.

did you decide on which phone to buy ?
I bought an iphone 12, 5 months ago after being a long term android user (since 2014). It was a wish to try out iOS and i have realized it's just not for me. :tearsofjoy:
It's very troublesome with no file manager and hard to move files to pc. other issues members have already mentioned above. other things i hate is u cant simply turn off GPS with one button, need to go to settings. also, iphone will automatically turn on wifi and bluetooth after some time. free icloud storage is only 5 gb, that will be over in 2 weeks, then daily reminders to upgrade icloud. :expressionless:
also couldn't use tachiyomi (manga app) and cracked spotify that i had on android. Finally had to take paid spotify. My whatsapp hasnt been backuped in months, since apple only allows backup to icloud, I will probably take an icloud subscription. Also, you cant install an adblock in your browser. (I was using ublock origin extension on firefox on android for years). I have basically stopped browsing on my phone. The keyboard and typing experience is absolute trash. Putting Gboard makes it little better but still shit.

But, there is many things that has blown me away on iPhone too. The camera you can trust to take good pictures, just point and shoot. Also, this is the first phone where i go on long journeys (bus, train) without power bank. It's easily a 1.5 day battery for me. I recently lasted 15 hours without charging, on a trip across 3 states, got 7 hours Screen on Time, Location was on the full time. (this is with power saving mode turned on).

I plan to buy a used S22 Ultra when S23 Ultra releases, if i can get a good price. But iPhone is such a reliable phone so i will probably keep it as my secondary phone.

If i was in your shoes, I would have picked the pixel 7 pro. It is the best phone released this year imo.
Finally to answer your question, you want your phone to last 3-4 yrs without any hitch. Then iPhone is the better option.
Pixel 6 & 6 pro were amazing phones, tech youtubers were all recommending them when it launched. One yr later, there has been so many bugs and issues, nobody is recommending them now. That wont happen on iPhone.
Who knows how pixel 7 will be in 3 years ? Google has not released a single phone which has lasted 3-4 yrs (as far as i know).

One last thing, warranty and service centers for Pixel in India is terrible. From kerala if i want to repair it, I have to send it to Mumbai. (or go to local shop and void warranty). iPhone repair stores are dime a dozen.

I beg to differ here. They had bugs at time of launch and for some months after that.

After A13 all issues have been fixed and if you are on a budget around 45k, P6 pro is the absolute best you can get right now. P6 pro user myself here.

Those who buy iPhones just because they wanted to use iPhone are those who rant the most about iPhones and iOS.

If you are an Android user and if you do not have any complaints about Android, go with Pixel.

If you have a proper need with iPhone that Android cannot provide, get the iPhone. I switched because of Healthkit and integration with Watchand I am happy to live with iOS limitations.
