I need an iPhone and the only hurdle is the modding procedure

Questions:
1] Has any1 tried the iPhone in mumbai, if yes any problems
2] Can any1 from mumbai help me with the modding
3]When i purchased the psp i was told to check the while buying cause that decided how easy it is to mod ...is something like this applicable to to the iPhone
 
a friend's friend followed this to unlock his iphone (purchased from US)...and is now using the phone in Mumbai on a Vodafone connection...

yes, the iphhone dev wiki (posted by jediknight) has all the resources you will need to get this done.

I unlocked my phones using a unix terminal (mac) based method, but there are far easier GUI based methods available now

the current modding methods are applicable to phones with FW V1.02 but rumor has it that the next firmware revision is expected to be out within few weeks so you better rush up if you plan to pick one

also, the above would be applicable only if:

a- the upgrade really bricks modded phones

b- the user is dumb enough to upgrade the firmware without even googling fo expected results once the firmware comes out
