So here's the story :)

My Btech batch mates are starting a NGO along with the support of our HOD and principal to teach poor kids from slum. The process of registration has been started, and the initially 16-17 class-mates has already joined it to take care of various works.

My HOD has called me to join it and take care of the IT department (to teach big kidz about using computer and internet aka online working), and asked me to meet him on Wednesday regarding more details.

Before nodding head to him, can anyone tell me more details regarding the working theory of NGO, Initially they are targeting 50 kids :)

Any help regarding NGO will be useful :):)

don't do it for the sake of joining an NGO, or to earn your livelihood. If you are still studying/have an alternate source of secure income, do it for the love of technology and helping people.
We had worked with an NGO that was teaching youth at an ITI. these guys knew tech fairly well (they had been trained to repair TV's and such) so we just taught them about computers, and they picked up fairly well, and were able to handle it by themselves.
But if you are planning to make a career out of this alone.... Maybe not

er, not really. Not all NGO's are staffed by volunteers. Bigger NGO's have paid professional staff, but there is not much grown unless you are working for the core part of the NGO - for example as a lobbyist, development consultant etc. Support functions like sysadmins... not so much
