Hello,
Well i use 'Transcend Portable Hard Disk 160 GB'..My problem is that "My dvd player fails to recognise external hard disk"..is there any drivers related problem or related to the External HDD of mine??Please suggest me the proper way for this.

From your post I assume that your DVD player has a USB port and it can run DivX files off flash drives.

Running a flash drive from that USB port is not difficult as it requires very low power from the DVD player. Running a hard drive is different as it requires more juice than a simple flash drive.

There is nothing wrong with your external hard drive, just that it won't run through that USB port on the DVD player.

yes , the answer is true, many dvd players dont detect ext:HDDs & some dos. It requires 1Amp or more from the usb jack,if its less the drive's internal circuitry cant get enough power to work properly.IF you can get Y splitter cable, then you can supply power from nearby PC or LAP too.

This issue usually happens in certain front panel usb ports of desktop PCs . The reason is these ports are connected to the mobo via a cable. So it isnt able to power up the ext. hdds properly. But when it comes to usb ports in dvd players, IMO they must be soldered or connected to the player's PCB directly (without any cable). Then i dont know how it isnt able to power up these hdds.

I think it might be an issue of player unable to pickup ntfs formatted drive if your hdd is formatted to ntfs.

yes the DVD players can detect drives formatted in FAT 32 and not NTFS. My sony hometheatre did not detect the USB corsair voyager when it was formatted in NTFS, but after changing it to FAT32 it did work perfectly fine.

Check whether your external HDD is NTFS or FAT 32. I dont think the power requirement should be a problem as most of the USB sockets does provide enough juice

Obviously your hdd must be in NTFS format only. Because FAT32 can support a maximum partition size of 32GB only.

So if you want to format your drive in FAT32 , then you have to set the partition size of each partition to 32gb or lesser.
