I need Java for Open Office but I want to disable Java (applets) in browsers : IE8 & Firefox. How exactly is that done ? Previously, in IE -> Internet Options -> Advanced had a checkbox to disable Java.

Win7 -> CP -> Java(32-bit) where exactly can I do the same ?

Also, if I uncheck "Check for updates automatically" in CP, when I check later it is checked.

btw : I'm using jre-6u17-windows-i586-s.exe.

This means that you do not have admin/power user rights on that machine. please try doing this using an administrative account.

IE, anyone ?

I'm using a admin account. Still cannot disable updates.

Edit : IE8 -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage add-ons -> Toolbars & Extensions -> select Java Plug-In and right click + disable.
