I recently got an X800 XT 256MB AGP and it's working fine except for one small problem.

The 2D performance is a bit laggy. What's strange is that whenever I have AA enabled, the problem escalates causing rapid switching between windows and browser tabs to lag. Why should AA cause normal Windows stuff to lag :S

I think it's a problem with my windowed modes altogether because when I run RTHDRIBL in window mode, it runs at 10fps at 640x480; while in fullscreen, it stays at 50-60fps at 1024x768, 4xAA.

Even using apps like ObjectDock that make use of the GPU for animations and stuff cause the lag to escalate.

The lag isn't much even at it's worst, but it's definitely there and it shouldn't be.

I am using Catalyst 7.4 and games etc. run absolutely perfectly.

also when its lagging for you go to task manager and see if any service / app is using too much CPU cycles.

Or just take screenie of task manager and post here.

I think I have the GART drivers installed from the nForce2 drivers setup.
Didn't actually reinstall them before installing the Catalysts's and nor did the Catalyst's ask to install a GART driver of their own.

Though under SmartGART in CCC, all the AGP and PCI read/write functions are turned ON.

Then its pretty wierd... cos I've personally never encountered anything like this. The other question is if something is eating cpu cycles...

It's just a slight lag, but it's definitely there. The sort where a window stays a moment too longer before the screen refreshes to show the stuff behind it.

CPU usage doesn't reveal anything because the usage shoots up for whichever app it is that is lagging right then.
And the problem only occurs when I have AA enabled or something like ObjectDock running, i.e. I am a 100% sure it's related to the GPU.

Will try reinstalling the nForce drivers.

The only time i get laggy performance in 2d is when my drivers are not installed, i.e. during windows setup etc. So looks more like a problem with that... use driver cleaner pro and do a clean reinstall of the drivers

Well that's strange :S ...anyways I hope u did a clean install of windows after getting the card as nV and ATi drivers are not known to mix well..

Also i suggest that you try older catalyst drivers, i reccomend catalyst 6.9, as they give best performance for x800 cards in 3d games also...
Same goes for nforce drivers, search around a bit and find out which version is best for nforce2 chipsets..

Trying some of the older Catalyst's, mainly 6.9 and 6.12.
I had a similar problem moving up from my TNT2 to 7500 and nothing short of a fresh Windows install fixed it. How I hate going through those :(

Don't really have a choice with the nForce2 drivers since the latest you can get is 5.10 and even those are really really old.
