Laptops Laptop LCD problem

The LCD on my laptop Compaq Presario M2000 has gone bad. I had sent it to the service center to get it repaired, they sent me a whopping quote of Rs 28,000 for the repair :O. The laptop has no warranty left as its more than 2 years old.

Just wanted to know whether it can repaired anywhere else at a much cheaper rate?

Also wondering what would the cheapest laptop would cost me, usages include browsing and office work ( no eepc's as a windows OS is a must).

Thanks in Advance :)

1. Lots of local laptop repair guys will do it considerably cheaper. wait for others to post. There are a couple of shops on lammy. Also Check classifieds in the paper for laptop repair shops in pune. definitely cheaper :D saw one at null stop.

OR

2. Buy an E and install Xp on it :P works fine ;)

The problem is known as Dim LCD...
Three components are there for LCD for display picture correctly...
LCD itself--->Screen Inverter--->Vga Cable sadly nothing is standard so cannot be diagnosed without changing the component which are not available without exact part number.. :@ (Thats why they can afford charge such obscene amounts)

Didn't they tell you which part is faulty... if yes then order that part from online shops in US and replace it yourself...

for sending display on external monitor ...key combo is Fn+F4
Check it if it works properly then nothing is wrong with your card...

My laptop is Compaq V3000 same problem dim screen :( I am also looking to get it fixed perhaps cheaply...

In case of dim screen worst case the CCFL inside the TFT are dead that case TFT needs to be opened and CCFL replaced i am being told that it is tricky even for experienced mechs. the company will never open up LCD and replace CCFL they will replace TFT as whole and may be they quoted you 28K they might be replacing the screen inverter and VGA cable too..:S

If you need help in doing R&D on Screen i stay at navi mumbai and have some experience with lappy repair.. bring it over if our screen match may be one of the lappy may start working...

thanks for explaining the problem.

I'm just gonna use an external display for a while and buy a new one later as repairing this old lappie isn't worth it.
