I am planning to swap my PC for a laptop.

I am preparing for my CCNP and so I might be running some simulators too (dynagen).

My budget for a laptop is 40k (all inclusive).

The dell 1525 with 3GB ram +Intel T5800 (2MB cache | 2.0GHz)costs 39.5k (shipping + taxes additional).

The dell 1525 with 3GB ram +Intel T8100 (3MB cache |2.1GHz)costs 44.5k (shipping + taxes additional).

Is it worth going for the T8100 or would the 5800 suffice.

Would it be cheaper / better with any other brand.

Here is what I need

Good procc + 3GB ram

gfx card doesn't matter

9 cell battery (does it make much diff ?)

250GB HDD

Please give me some recommendations (dealers are u hearing me).

If any body interested in my PC drop me a PM.

Hey, first off I'd suggest you to take a peek into the Studio 15 laptop. Those're a notch better than the Inspiron 1525. :)

The Studio 15 retails with 3gigs of RAM, T5800, 320GB HDD and a Intel GMA 4500MHD which's better than the X3100. A 6-cell battery is more than sufficient. A 9-cell on the other hand would last a couple of mins more (depending on the type of app. you intend to run).

A better processor is better any day for simulators but comes at a premium unlike desktop processor variants where every 500 bucks would get you a better one. Besides I seriously doubt how much 1MB of cache more could make a difference here. Take your pick.

But given your budget, go ahead with Dell. They've a better ASS compared to HP. :)

C2D T5800 is a 'Merom-2M' core processor based on 65nm mfg process!!
therefore will generate more heat, eat up more power etc.

C2D T8100 on the other hand is a newer 'Penryn-3M' core based proccy made on 45nm therefore will generate comparatively lesser heat nd consume less power!!

I'd suggest penryn processors, if u r sticking to santa rosa platform!

u can go for intel's latest notebook platform(montevina)notebooks!

for more info on the newer laptop processors check this out - List of Intel Core 2 microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
