Laser Printer Need Advice.

Hi guys.

looking for Wifi printer to print black and white and colour prints .

Need something that is very cost effective for inks and is of good quality.

Will recommended a good quality one and also how much the inks would usually cost for them?

Laser colour printers are pretty costly let alone a wireless one.
For home use with moderate printing, consider any of the Inktank printers. I use a Canon Pixma G5070 wifi inktank bought couple of years back in sale. It is nowhere as fast as a Laser but still pretty good. I am yet to buy new ink but cost wise they lie somewhere between Laserjet and regular Inkjet.
If you really want a B&W Laserjet, you cannot go wrong with HP. I had bought a HP 1018 B&W in 2007 and it finally gave out last year and that too because the plastic just crumbled due to age. Aftermarket consumables are pretty cheap. No idea about color laserjets though so will defer to others.

Well, the official specs state -

The original ink bottles (4 colors set) is around 1400 but aftermarket versions are cheaper.

Like ibose said color laser are really costly and not worth unless your requirement is professional.
Inkjet in my opinion is simply headache and I last used inkjet was 2010-12.
Inkjet is only good if you daily print atleast 4-6 pages or else cartridge dries up within days.
Laser is simply the best, you can try these -
brothers
Canon
Considering the inflated prices this is a better option now - https://www.amazon.in/Canon-MF3010-Digital-Multifunction-Printer/dp/B009LJKURO

I've used this canon lbp2900B which I bought for 6.5k may be 6-7years back.
now all these prices are soaring high.

You can enable print sharing & connect the printer to router and save some money by not buying Wifi version.

with laser you can buy original tonner refill for 3-4k which yields approx. avg 2000pages & if you don't care much about quality then you can also opt for a tonner refill at local market and they may charge between 250-600rs.

Performance wise Canon is better and HP 's driver software is always bulky and sometimes adds a bit bloatware.
These brothers printers were sold for just 5-6k now everything is doubled the price.

I recommend Epson Expression Home XP-2100 https://www.epson.eu/products/printers/inkjet-printers/for-home/expression-home-xp-2100
The device differs in the compact sizes and stylish design. On the front panel are touch buttons to control printing and device settings. The matte surface leaves no marks when touched with fingers.
One of the main advantages of the XP-2100 is the ability to work without using a PC. You can send print jobs via Wi-Fi directly: Direct support provides the ability to work without a router. Using Epson technologies, you can work from iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as send files by e-mail.
The printer has the ability to eliminate the effect of "red eyes". This can be done in the free Photo Enhance app.
Compatible with both matte and glossy media.
Built-in surge protection.
The price is about 120 dollars.
All information about ink, you can find at this link: https://epson.com/InkFinder

I would not recommend a non-wifi variant as it ties you to the router. Go with Wifi enabled and be free to place it anywhere you want.

I have this brother printer. It's B&W and got it for 17k few years back. Still on the original cartridge. Turns out i use the scanner 10x more than as a photo copier

I don't know if I would recommend HP, since they are remotely locking printers which use non-HP cartridges. HP has some pretty shitty practices overall, not at all consumer friendly from what I hear. Personally, I would avoid them like the plague.

That would be something new then. The older ones including the 1018 and 1020 did not have these. But then I am talking about non wireless versions. I don't see how HP can lock those remotely.

They do this on and off I think, if you search you can find several instances over the years, like https://www.techpowerup.com/237048/...ware-update-locks-non-original-ink-cartridges
And see also https://www.classaction.org/news/cl...ocked-use-of-third-party-ink-toner-cartridges

They update firmware that detects non-HP cartridges and disables printer functions. I think I also recall them blocking scanning in AIOs because the ink ran out, which is absolute BS. Can't find a source for that right now though.

Thanks for this info, never heard of such tactics.
I am avoiding this brand since a decade. Purchased 3-4 printers years ago all were poor quality and with buggy software like some bloatware.
Also purchased a laptop 5-7 years back that too wasn't impressive for the price.

It really depends on personal preference and setup location but obviously wifi version is a better choice. It is suggested to extend the budget a little for wireless freedom.
These brother printers are really good but prices are all jacked up , almost doubled now irrespective of the brand.

I have not faced this with any of the HP printers I used and did not hear of anything like this here (more prevalent abroad ?). I started with an entry level HP inkjet (forgot the model) and then moved to the 1018 in 2007. That lasted till 2021 till the plastic crumbled due to age. At no point I needed any servicing or support. Bit of cleaning here and there, all on my own. I used all kinds of aftermarket toners, inks and cartridges. My friend purchased the similar 1020 around in 2010 and his is still working perfectly till date. Printing has been flawless throughout and very economical. No issues whatsoever with driver install and I have not seen any bloat. The only bit which riled me initially was that linux support was a challenge since the driver used a hardware blob specific to the model. This was eventually resolved. I have used their other products including a HP Compaq laptop which was my first and lasted many years.
Maybe I am lucky so I only have good things to say of this brand. Maybe they no longer build things as good as they used to.

There's two ways to do laser printing.

You have the drum in the cartridge like HP. This means printer is cheaper but refills more expensive. Print quality is consistent since its a new drum each time.

The drum in the printer like Brother. Printer is more expensive but refills are cheaper. I would not attempt refilling cartridges that use the Brother model as the wrong toner could damage the drum. You really need to know what you're doing here. Cheap toner is just that generic with sub standard quality control.

As for chipped toner cartridges or not most companies are moving in that direction with HP leading the way. Refills are harder to do and only older printers can do it.

This refilling is less of an issue for home owners i would think than for offices or shops.

No doubt wired is cheaper than wifi. Price difference at the time when i bought mine in 2017 was 5k between wired and wifi. Compelling enough for some to consider.

Wired is more fiddly as it requires some tweaking with the router to ensure the signal gets through. The wifi model i have registers with the router and goes to sleep. Whenever i want to print or scan it wakes up and accepts the job. The gap between jobs can be weeks and it works flawlessly. The initial setup was not possible over wifi so that usb-b cable they provide must be kept carefully.

I don't know why the price has increased. I was reluctant to buy from amazon which was retailing the same model for 16k because of complaints about damage and the seller being in another city. So I just called up the local Brother dealer and they had the printer home delivered in a half hour. You pay a premium to brick and mortar shops but there are other advantages too. I had already seen the printer a while back and decided to get it later.

Point i would make to the OP is consider a multi-function device instead of a plain printer. I use the scan function a lot. Otherwise you can get a more specialised scanner later. I don't have the space for another device so a MFD works out great for me. A photo copier at home is a real luxury.
possibly going for for Brother -T520W model.

with extended warranty.

thank you guys for all the help.
Looks good and people have told me ink tank does not have the same ink drying issues as inkjet.
