Monitors LCD Monitor Calibration Query

Hi

Very often we see a big difference in color accuracy b/w the calibrated and the uncalibrated LCD monitors...

Take a look at this for ex...

AnandTech: Dell 2407WFP and 3007WFP LCD Comparison

I have a few Questions...

Why dont LCD monitor manufacturers like Dell ship out calibrated displays ?

What exactly is calibrating with hardware ?

How can we best calibrate our displays with software only and how do they compare to hardware calibration...?

What would be the cost of such hardware that helps in accurate calibration? Can we hire people for this?

Thanks

:)

Ok forget the other Q...Anyone ever thought about this..

^^That's the million dollar question :D

But, isn't calibration dependent on the lighting conditions?

That was my view too...

But take a look at this...

The primary problem is that your basic eyeball calibration is highly influenced by ambient lighting, how much sleep you've had, and how much coffee is coursing through your veins. Obtaining a consistent viewing environment is difficult under these conditions.

Hardware based monitor calibrators provide far more accurate and repeatable results.

Monitor Calibration and Profiling

Seems to suggest, thats not the case with hardware calibration...
