The LG Optimus Sol that we saw yesterday has been promoted to 'official' status. The Optimus Sol (Sol means the Sun) comes with LG’s new 3.8-inch, 800 x 480 resolution, 'Ultra AMOLED' display, which according to LG has a two-fold advanced reflection rate compared to standard AMOLED displays, which gives it better clarity outdoors and lower image quality degradation.
The LG Optimus Sol also has a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 2GB of ROM (150MB available to the user), expandable memory with 2GB microSD card included, 5 megapixel auto-focus camera on the back and VGA camera on the front, quad-band GSM and dual band 3G network support, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and a 1,500mAh battery with a new power management system which according to LG gives the Optimus Sol 20-30 percent boost in battery life. All this in a 9.8mm thick body.
The Optimus Sol will be sold in Europe starting mid-September, followed by Central and South America. The phone will be available in black, titan and white.

So a thin, decent size phone from LG packing the MSM8255 snapdragon. Hope then get the pricing right this time unlike the Optimus Black that was priced way too high with specs just better than Defy. (Come on LG take the 15k market with this like you did the ~10k-12k with the O1 P500 initially)

The problem is no matter what they do with the screen, resolution or other minor adjustments it still has the single core processor. How many phones is there in the market with MSM 8255/Adrenos 205 GPU/512MB RAM/5MP Camera that cost between 13-22k. So in order to not get lost in already competitive market or differentiate from others is competitive pricing. If they price it at 17k or above, people will think of other options. But in the same time they cannot price below 15k considering the screen and hardware cost to manufacture these. Remember Optimus black, only other than screen and brightness everything else is same as Defy or Galaxy SL. How is it doing? So expect the same for this also?

Adreno 205 is better than the SGX530 of the Defy and the SL. The SL is also priced badly. It should have dropped to 16k now considering the i9000 is now 20k!

Plus this has a UAMOLED screen. So yeah as you say i agree on the <17k price point. ~15k-16k would be perfect. Above 17k there is the Galaxy S i9000 which has a better SOC.

Though there are many devices with MSM8255 the ones below 20k are the Spice Mi-410 (Many minor niggles. Not a great brand) and the Xperia mini pair which has a mini 3" screen which might not suite everyone.(esp ones who get phones for gaming and browsing. Which is what Android focus is :P)

People also have Nexus S to choose considering the attractive price and its priority updates directly from Google. I agree with your point of having only two options (Mi-410 and Xperia Mini) under 20k. But lets not forget the MSM7x30 processor phones priced under the sub 17k from Acer and Huawei. Those processors are more powerful than its 800 MHz rating. So there are options. Considering that MSM7x30 processors have the ability to overclock to 1.4 Ghz or above.

Partially agree. If the HTC Desire-Z is available under 17k then this will be a hard sell. But Huawei and Acer! They hardly have any presence in India. I dont think many will end up buying these. If they dont care for the brand name and service n/w then the Spice Mi-410 is a much better bet than the Acer and Huawei IMHO.

Any news on its Indian launch?

I dont think there is any news yet about even the International launch, let alone Indian launch :P

Oh, that is right. I do not know how I completely missed out the Desire Z/G2. But if they sell at 18k and LG at 19k, then it is definitely recommended to buy Optimus SOL due to MSM8255 processor. Even if they are only apart by 2k or less, still LG would be a good buy compared to Desire Z/G2
