Can i put up a thread in Open Source or Market for sharing Linux cd/dvd's?? Coz we can buy a media instead of downloading it and write it and share it. Only free OS will be shared. Or people can post what all they have and then we can share. This is akin to LUG in many cities, but in the cities where they are not there people can write and courier for minimal charges.
There are sites like linuxbazaar.com and Kiraninfotech but their rates are high for a single person. Also they also write and give on a blank DVD/CD. Some people can get together and order a CD/DVD and burn and share.

Or people who have missed out recent magazine issues with DVD/CD of Linux they can ask and share.

Coz OpenSolaris 64bit DVD is retailing for 600 at linux bazaar. If 3 or 4 people can get together we can burn and share so it comes down to 150 or less per person.

Although this is just an idea and i dont know whether this can be implemented or not. If not people can pm me and we can do something through pm's :P .

P.S. All software will be free and Open Source

Nice idea, its nice to see a linux enthusiast on TE. We had one earlier aka unix.blackhat but has been inactive since mths now.
I guess should give nix a chance one more, if I can do my everyday work on nix then I might shift altogether as I dont game anymore as it is...

Josh you are free to create such a thread in Open Source Section but remember what you share should come under "GNU General Public License".

The GPL grants the recipients of a computer program the following rights:

  • the right to run the program, for any purpose.
  • the right to study how the program works, and modify it. (Access to the source code is a precondition for this)
  • the right to redistribute copies.
  • the right to improve the program, and release the improvements to the public. (Access to the source code is a precondition for this)

Any hint that the Rules are not being followed would automatically result in termination of that thread.

TE should not be seen in breach of copyright laws nor we would condone piracy in any form, so as long it is clean, go ahead.
