Looking for a compact fully automatic washing machine

Real estate in my new accommodation comes at a premium. I am looking for a good quality washing machine that does its job well and that will occupy the least possible space.

1. Brand is not a restriction - as long as the brand has a good A.S.S

2. Budget would be around 17k to 18k tops.

3. Fully automatic and hot wash - mandatory

4. For a family of 3 adults and a kid. Probably a 5.5kg machine should suffice.

5. Did I mention "as compact as possible"?

Should I go for a front loading one or a top loading one? Please suggest.
 
Go for front loading, apparently they are much better in wash quality and are easier on clothes. After going through some older threads here I bought LG 8068LDP for 18k last week as our old BPL machine started leaking.

It has all the features you mentioned but dunno about the compact part, its almost like a regular sized machine.

The only issue with front-loading auto m/c's is that they need continuous supply of water at a minimum pressure; which is not the case with top-loaded m/c's; as you can use a hose to fill the water in case you live in a place where water supply is an issue.

Any washing m/c is harsh on the clothes, esp with hot water (unless you need to remove greasy stuff every day!)
