Looking to Buy a Gaming PC in Bangalore for ~ 50K

Hello,

I am planning to buy a PC this week, I am based in Bangalore. I need it primarily for entertainment - Gaming on max settings, Movies etc. Details below:

1.Q: What is your budget?

a. ~50K

2.Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)

Have old Intel and AMD PCs.

b.Motherboard - Intel, MSI

c.GPU - Onboard, not sure.

e.Monitor - LG L1952S

f.SMPS - NOt sure

3.Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)

a. Monitor - Samsung 32" LCD TV which runs at 1920x1080

b. Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, DVD Writer

c. Seagate 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD

4.Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

a. CPU - Intel i2500K

b. Motherboard - First preference was GA-Z68XP-UD3R but it doesnt seem to be available in Bangalore SP Road. Next best alternative looks like ASUS P8Z68V Gen 3. I am primarily looking for a durable Z68 mobo with Gen 3 and Crossfire support

c. GPU - Sapphire 6950 2 GB. Again this seems to be unavailable to maybe I'll go for XFX 6950

2 GB, any other suggestions are welcome. Planning to delay this purchase by a month or so. Will be running using the onboard graphics till then.

d. RAM - GSkill Ripjaw 4 GB

e. PSU - Corsair 650 W

f. Case - Cooler Master Elite 335

5.Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

a. I may add another GPU card if needed, but dont want to do that in the immediate future.

6.Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)

a. Bangalore, through local shop or SP Road.

b.Open to online purchase: Does not seem to be safe.

7.Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market

a. No.

a.Gaming

b.Browsing

c.Desktop Processing

d.Movies HD

9.Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike?

Intel looks to be the way to go, AMD doesnt seem in the same league. For other components, would want to prefer a seller with good service and support.

a.Windows 7

Please provide your suggestions and recommendations on these. I will be purchasing this week so would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Rahul

CPU- Intel i5-2500k ~ 13500

MB-Asus P8Z68V ~ not sure about pricing

Ram-Gskill 8GB(4GBX2) 1600 mhz ~ 3200

GPU- I would say wait a bit and get the 78XX series or if you are eager/Sapphire/XFX/MSI twin Fozr 6950 ~ 15000

PSU-Seasonic S12II 620W ~ 4500

Case- NZXT Tempest ~ 4000 approx

Also you will need a CPU cooler as you are overclocking, not sure which to suggest will leaver to other members

The prices quoted are average prices

Is this how much it sells for in Bangalore? Bought this processor for 12,275 last week - Ritchie street,Chennai.

For cooler I would suggest Hyper 212 Evo.. Just installed it.. Temps around 30 on idle and 45 on load.

Yes, Bangalore is more expensive thanks to taxes.

Even the Hyper 212 EVO ~2400/-

And it is a BJP state, so much for Congress sucking the Aam Aadmi's blood.

Case- NZXT Tempest ~ 4000 approx

You highly under-quoted the NZXT Tempest EVO [it has superseded the Tempest], it goes ~6000/- in Bangalore.

The rest of the RIG I would suggest is as follows --

Intel Core i5 2500k ~13500/-

ASUS P8Z68M-PRO ~8900/-

G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GB x 2 1600MHz modules ~3400/-

AMD HD 6950 2GB ~16000/- [try to get the stock model from Sapphire and unlock it to the HD 6970 -- http://www.techpower...verclocking/159 / http://www.legitrevi...article/1608/1/ OR wait for the AMD HD 78** series to release and drive the prices down]

Corsair TX V2 650W ~5400/- [sorry Seasonic S12II 620W is not available in S.P., only the 520W variant is available]

APC BR1.1KVA-IN ~4600/- [buying expensive components and not having a UPS to safeguard them is criminal]

If you plan to over-clock this RIG, get either of these coolers --

Noctua NH-U12P SE2 ~3900/- [for heavy over-clocking] http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1196/1/ / http://www.overclockersonline.net/reviews/50003461/

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO ~2400/- [low to moderate over-clocking] http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/coolermaster-hyper-212-evo.html / http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cm_hyper212_evo/

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

But not every 6950 unlocks to 6970, also it is really worthwhile to wait for the 78** series rather then buying the present generation ones, I would have suggested Ivy bridge but its delayed to June, so no point

If you are waiting for 78** then try to get the i7-2600k and save for GPU

See even if the HD 78** series prices are not worth the wait AMD will have to depress prices of its existing models by a certain margin, say ~5% to 7%. This itself makes sense to wait till mid-March for those cards to release, let us leave it to OP to decide.

On the factor of unlocking, yes I agree with you, cannot do anything on that front.

Thank you allrounder799, Antidote, rakesh_ic and ALPHA17 for your suggestions and comments.

@allrounder799 - Any idea when would the 78XX series be available in India and the price range? And how do we identify which 6950 cards are overclockable?

@ALPHA17 - The motherboard you suggested - ASUS P8Z68M-PRO, though priced considerably lower, it looks like it doesnt support next gen GPU (PCIe 3.0) and processors (22 nm). Could you please confirm?

Thanks,

Rahul

Rahul, I will clarify your queries as you have marked them --

1) the AMD HD78** series cards will launch in India around mid-March, they will be priced ~18000/- +, wait till mid-April for prices to stabilise and become more uniform.

2) all HD 6950 cards are over-clockable, I was talking about unlocking a HD 6950 2GB v. to HD 6970, the success rate is higher for standard board cards which third party companies have not extensively modified [like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSi], Sapphire and HIS are AMD Graphics board members so release the most standard models [with highest rates of unlocking], how to unlock --> http://www.legitrevi...article/1608/1/.

3) Yes the ASUS P8Z68M-PRO does not support PCIe 3.0 but it is not a necessary feature, as all cards will work fine with PCIe 2.0 slots as the two standards are physically same, it is only the difference of data bandwidth served [like the case with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports].

4) All current Intel chipsets Z68 / P67 / H67 support 22nm processor which are built on the LGA 1155 socket, LGA 2011 chips will be incompatible, but if you want LGA 2011 chips you cannot buy Sandy-Bridge CPU's + you'll have to invest a sizeable budget on a X79 based motherboard + Ivy Bridge CPU [delayed till June] --> http://www.xtremesys...rd-and-PCIe-3.0 / http://www.tomshardw...tability-bridge.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. Cheers!!

As ALPHA17 answered all your questions, the LGA1155 MB's will support the Ivy Bridge, the are changing the fabrication process not the socket type, but as mentioned before theres no point in waiting for it, go with i5-2500k

7850 will cost above 15-17k at launch and wont be faster by much, might be slower Infact, about the same, don't wait for it. Ivy is worth waiting but global launch is now April 29 so more like late may in India. If you are in a hurry, go for the setup you have made. Mobo I recommend msi z68 gd55 or gd65
