I recently got a Macbook, but am a little worried about the servicing and repair costs, since the laptop is pricey as hell. Was wondering if I should go ahead with one of these coverage plans? Recommendations welcome.

Should always get official extended warranty if you can and hope you never have to use it.

I suggest to never open it up unnecessarily for improvements or minor repairs until absolutely a must.
Had bad experiences with a minor complaint resulting in a series of repairs leading to further issues and escalations such that the computer remained only fit for parts.

From my observations on the internet and IRL, for a macbook above 1.4L you should always go with applecare, recently have noticed a trend of motherboard issues in macs. For your own peace of mind, warranty is a must. Nowadays macbooks dont really have repairable components and a recently new mac should just not be opened at all. It is a bad idea.
TLDR: Buy the extended warranty.
