Sometime back, I tried to check option to add graphic card in old home PC but not workable.

Since home PC is old gen & having limited operational capacity, I decide to replace CPU itself & keep monitor & sound system as it is. Target is to make PC better gaming PC & enhancing storage capacity (min 1 TB) with reasonable clocking speed.

Spec of home PC:
  • Processor = Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2 GHz) Box Proc.
  • Motherboard = Intel D945GCNL Original Mother Board
  • Chasis / SMPS = Micro ATX - Mini Tower Case, I ball, Pride model
  • System Memory= 1 GB DDR2
  • RAM-TranscandHard Drive= 250 GB SATA
  • Hard Drive - SeagateOptical Drive= 20x SATA
  • DVD Writer - Sony
  • Graphics= Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Output= 19" Wide Screen LCD - Viewsonic
  • Audio =Creative 5.1 Ch. SBS 560/580
Budget- max 12k +or-

You need to extend your budget by another 12k that means with 22k you can get a good system by reusing the components specified below.

Intel Core i3 4130 -7500,
Gigabyte B85M-D3H -5500, (mATX)
Corsair Value Select 4GB 1600Mhz -2400,
WD Caviar Blue 500GB -3000,
Antec VP450P -2600,
Asus 24B5ST DVDRW-1000.
TOTAL -22,000.

The following components like I Ball Pride, Viewsonic 19" LCD, Creative 5.1 SBS 560/580 shall be reused.

He can reuse the old hdd and DVD writer too imo. Another 4-5k saved there. If he sells off his current rig for 3-4k he could easily get a new rig within 20k that can play games.
