CHENNAI: In a clever business strategy that could possibly derail the Karunanidhi Government's ambitious Arasu Cable TV Corporation, the Sun TV Network, owned by the Maran brothers, has decided to storm households with an attractive low-cost Direct To Home (DTH) package.

Soon, consumers in Tamil Nadu, could be watching 75 satellite television channels and listening to 15 FM Radio channels spending a mere Rs 75 a month.

Sun TV on Thursday, carried scrolls announcing that it will be offering all these in the DTH package besides providing the dish antenna and Set Top Boxes to subscribers. The details of the package will be advertised in the group's Tamil daily Dinakaran on Friday.

Sun TV is India's second largest television network. Among the 75 satellite television channels that will be offered on the DTH platform will be Sun Network's 20 channels in four regional languages. The FM Radio package will include its seven FM Radio channels, it is believed.

Television industry analysts felt that the move was aimed to counter the DMK Government's move to launch the Arasu Cable TV Corporation, which is expected to eat into the business of Sun Network's Sumangali Cable Vision, a Multi-System Operator.

Only on September 15, the launch of Kalaignar TV, a television channel floated by Karunanidhi's family members after they fell out with the Kalanidhi and Dayanidhi Maran brothers, had fuelled a satellite war in Tamil Nadu.
