The veterans of this site intended this site to expand its userbase and receive more traffic. Unfortunately this is the kind of users and traffic one can expect right now. if you think shutting down the market section will solve your problems, by all means do so.

I am not someone who wants the marketplace to be shut down no matter what. You talked about the trust this site has and I was only talking about that point and how members of this forum built that trust. So if we stop doing that, then the trust will get eroded slowly if frauds start happening. Already there is so much unnecessary 'halla' going on which is already eroding that trust.

I wouldn't bother coming back to this site if people shit post to pad their 25 post target just to sell stuff here. This is the only tech site I am logged into here. If this is the sort of visitors that are coming as you say, then I see no reason to log in here any longer. It's better to just stop visiting TE and stay on reddit which has more amount of people, more trolling etc.

All this happening only because 'Erodov' closed down. Nobody was worried about TE's marketplace earlier. What I don't understand that is, if those 25 posts are Moderator approved then that means the people running the forum feel like even these meaningless posts are alright. So what's the need of 'Moderator Approval', if they are not going to worry about the quality of those posts.

Some posts / threads do go through. Most of em are not approved and get deleted.

May be this is the right time and section but i would request mods to move it to where its appropriate.

If there are concerns about stolen items being sold, scammers in our midst then may be these measure might be taken.. Just an idea and i am open to criticism as well.

1. Anyone selling should submit a verified proof of their identity and address to the admin how that can be secured and not misused, I am yet to give a think. Suggest plz.. This should discourage scammers and shady guys from becoming a seller.

2. If buyers and sellers are willing to bear may be 1% or appropriate percentage of the price then a verified section can be created where the amount paid should first go to a forum account managed by the administrator/S and once the item is delivered and is found as described then the amount can be credited to sellers account. This can go a long way in establishing the credibility of the forum and its sellers. The usual buy sell section can run parallel, but people who wish to deal more securely should use the verified section.

3. All items should be sold with an invoice if not then they should accompany a declaration from seller about its antecedents plus a proof of address and identity of the seller to discourage wrong doers and doings

This is what came to my mind, may be you guys and the staff might find them impractical or undoable but as i also buy and sometimes sell here so i thought i should alos give my 2 cents or 3.

Thanks

He found it on road strictly for body parts...sounds interesting. He might have done some overnight hom havan mantra chanting and god led him to the path (road in his case) for the body parts and god was so pleased by his devotion he got the entire phone and not just the parts! Bonus!
If he can share the mantras we all can be blessed in similar ways...except that we wont sell those things here :D

Is the talk about the laptop cost and "unnecessary upgrades" in this sales thread allowed?

I think the laptop is being sold at lower price than expected looking at the specs. But there are people who are unhappy with price and trolling the seller and talking about unnecessary upgrades being overkill etc. I have doubts about them even ready to buy the system.

If anything i have known from seeing all these sale threads on here and while i was on erodov shortly before it got plugged, more than 90% of the time most of the members who do write unnecesarry stuff on sale threads either picking about price or anything else for that matter were never interested in buying the product in the first place. I'm guilty of it too. Did it on erodov like twice too on a gtx 1080ti sale thread (when the rtx 2000s series launched) and was suggesting that a rtx 2070 would be better than buying it at the price OP had posted. Little did i know that not everyone buys a gpu just for gaming and the amount of VRAM the 1080 ti had which still made the gpu valuable.

Yet at the same time i'm not entirely against this. When i was looking to upgrade my pc, and saw a thread on erodov for an i5 3570 going for around 4K, a member wrote a snarky remark saying that at that price anyone would be better off buying a xeon e3-12xx edition from aliexpress. And if it were not for him, I wouldn't be having the PC i had today. And the xeon cpu had so much more value than the i5 and was also cheaper. Isn't that the purpose of the entire Market here on techenclave again? I mean sure from a seller's perspective that would be pissing off as i just lost a buyer. But didn't i read somewhere here on this very thread ( or some other thread) that the market section isn't for profit making, and that community values should be kept in place. And if i assume right that by community "values", we should all help each other and inform each other about technology itself. I try my best to emulate that and if i see any item that a member is selling, i write a little paragraph regarding that product itself and my personal experience with it and either agree with OP on the price, or suggest him that it may be a tad bit high and wish him good luck.

All in all, what i'm trying to say is that OTing a thread is not needed unless a person has something valuable to say other than "LOL shit price, i can get the same for 10K cheaper" without realising that the product was OOS on the website they saw. If they believe that the price is too high for the item, they should tell why exactly and have genuine evidence for it (old threads where exact same item was going for cheaper, no warranty on product etc) it should be a pure price suggestion and not price-policing, the person must clearly say that it's a suggestion only. Because there indeed are cases where the seller genuinely wants to sell it and to say it lightly, is more "hopeful" in his pricing. Strangely said the members who do pick at the seller for the price do in a way help the seller know the going rate of an item. If the seller doesn't want any OTing than he should be able to ask mods to remove the messages.

Yet most of the time it hardly matters. Lets say If a seller does maintains a price of what he considers right but majority of other people don't, the item never gets sold until it drops to that very price. Not saying that if a person tries to sell a redmi 9 for 9K here, and then a bunch of retards start commenting "LOL OVERPRICED, SELL FOR 3K", and the product will only get sold at 3K, but if someone suggests a price which makes more sense like say "you might be able to attract a buyer more if you price it a bit lower considering the exact same model is being sold for the exact same price here `insert link`". Even if no one does say this, most members here are sensible enough to know the right price and the item if never dropped to the price, tends to stay unsold.

A great example of this was that one 1080ti thread a month back or so. Guy priced it at 40K-45K, people suggest a lower price for him to find a sale in a "rough" way and he basically defends himself by saying he has the right to price it at whatever price he wants. Skip a few weeks and he eventually drops to the price that everyone suggested, finds a buyer and everyone goes happy ( i think). Did the same thing with my rx 570 that i bought off erodov, back then rx 570s were going for 7k-8k, a seller kept the price at 12k, but was the exact model i wanted, people suggested that he may drop the price to find a buyer since that's a tad bit high. A few weeks pass and he eventually drops the price to 10K. I talk to him, get a fix deal on 8K and bought it.

And this is slightly offtopic, but please do know that i did not just discover this forum by some miracle by typing out 'technology' and 'india' in the search bar. I was redirected here from people on reddit when i asked them as to where could i possibly find second hand parts in India. I personally think that the marketplace is perhaps the only thing which is bringing new members to this forum. If some of you think this is hard to believe, well then continue to do so. If some of you say that's why we should remove the marketplace since none of these people ever participate in any other section of the forum, well then start threads which will get people to talk as much as those old threads in the early to mid 2010s did. For a forum about technology, it's weird to see the most popular threads being either offtopic/political or even both. Even though i was only attracted to this forum in the first place for the market, i evenutally stuck around and enjoyed talking with other people and discussing things. Man i spent too much time writing this

Namsate for spoiling the thread.
Why you checking my last post date? You ok right?
I post this from past?? Can't you see the date of this thread?
Thank you for teaching me that calling out insane pricing is called as spoiling thread. I feel humbled.

Also at all the diplomatic people and diplomacy preachers, this is a public thread, so I posted my opinion in public. If I had to negotiate, then I would've taken the PM route.

Whatever happened to having personal opinions? You guys are reacting as if I said something personal about OP. Guess, I should go back to my cave.

By all means do that. As you mentioned, this is a public forum and not a republic tv arnab debate. If you have any "personal opinion" of yours to disburse, pls try to do so in a non condescending manner, or better still - keep it to yourself. Constructive "opinion" is always welcome.

Opinion? checking someone's last post and commenting on that is opinion? ye opinion hota hey bhai sahab? :worried:

Opinion/Suggestion is no where near to taunting/making fun/low balling, your and others who were in same league does not have "May be", "I guess", "I recommend", "I would Suggest" and all words which refer to opinion and suggestions.
@CyberGhost sir ji ka PM Title hey "Price Recommendation" and after the reading the PM i was Wah! :)

The first para of your post was enough to make your point. There was no need for that second para.
Yes, this is a public forum and not the umpteen social media platforms where one doesn't need to follow any decorum. Just like you have the freedom to write down your opinion, even we have that option to show displeasure at the way you constructed your post.
Everyone, including me, thought that the pricing was absurd but if people would've given constructive criticism through PM like Cyberghost did, then wouldn't it have been a wonderful experience for all parties involved.
Even if there was no need to go through PM, then there are many ways to give constructive criticism without trying to make fun of others.

The market section needs basic human decency. There are non-rude ways to make replies there. If this is not maintained then the threads there will be continuously spammed with bs and almost being personal.
Sellers should also need to grow thicker skin. Being easily offended is counter-productive to discussions. Also my latest experience with a seller was far from good. I don't like to crucify someone publicly but fellow members please avoid having double-standard mentality. Your father doesn't own this forum.
The mods also need to check the OP threads and do the needful if the seller breaks any FS rules.

Care to explain. Is it like for cheating and is it banned from use or gets detected by cheat detecting softwares ?

It seems to be a device that contains inbuilt macros and allows you to create your own, that affect recoil, shooting and moving mechanics etc. in games in ways that are not possible for a human to do. This is pretty much what it says on the box, if you look at the pics in the thread I linked.

It's analogous to cheat scripts for PC games, which allow you to reduce or remove recoil, remove quickscope delays when using sniper rifles, do complicated perfectly timed attack sequences with a single key etc.
Not being a console gamer, I'm not familiar with the technical aspects of this device, but it's very much a cheating device, IMO. Googling this turns up a lot of discussions, including this, which says that it has 1 legitimate use as a cross-platform adapter, allowing the use of any controller with any platform (and also mentions that it's still not allowed in competitive leagues).

Edit: grammar

I can say the same to you. I find your comment destructive, personal & offensive. You should've kept that to yourself as you have advised me.

All opinions doesn't need to be like that and you're advocating "diplomacy" again. India will soon become like CCP where no one can any opinions because opinions are wrong unless it makes the person feels good about it.

I check the post history of all members. I was a mod in few forums and it has become a habit. I don't understand why you're taking it personal. I don't even know you and I have nothing against you.

I wasn't making fun of OP in that thread to be honest. I'm not that kind of person. I was actually making the "time machine" joke but I guess Ill have to keep jokes out of this forum.

The 2nd & 3rd line were for the diplomatic advisors, and now you're also doing the same.

I simply don't understand why calling out someone publicly is wrong. I called him out publicly for the absurd pricing and I have nothing against OP. I would've done the same for any such thread and I would continue to do so in pubic posts. I do it so that newbies will learn and not fall for such absurd pricing.

So, if calling out such absurd pricing in public posts is wrong, then make a rule and Ill stop it. But if such rules are made, then more such rules will be added and then this won't be a public forum anymore.

I'm done with this topic.

@puns, @Renegade why there is no option to delete account? Request you to delete my account.

Adieu!

This guy with ego issues wants to become a one man jury, opinion dispensing, public forum messiah. "Calling out publicly" whomever offends his justice seeking eyes. Replying with a rofl haha (emote) to whatever threads and user replies he finds funny (only he knows what's funny about them). Newcomers will be duped and the forum will be lost to scalpers without his gracious guidance. idk what he thinks of himself. sigh.

Going into semantics of diplomacy to justify his lack of basic politeness. Multiple people are pointing to one simple thing, but all he wants to do is defend his ignorance by any argument possible. He is beyond delusional. I cant bother to waste my time over such trolls any further.

Good riddance!
