When Nokia and Microsoft announced their partnership a few months ago, most people back then all but left Symbian OS for dead. Since then, there have been a couple of major updates to the OS, and the news just keep pouring. Today, Nokia and Microsoft announced that the latest productivity apps from the software giant will gradually become available for Symbian Belle.
The apps will come to the OS in two stages. The first batch will become available in Q4 and will include Microsoft Lync 2010 Mobile, Microsoft PowerPoint Broadcast, Microsoft OneNote, and Microsoft Document Connection. More apps will come in 2012 with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint being part of the group. Regarding the latter, we must note that this is the first time they become officially available outside the Windows platform.
All the apps will be free for your Symbian Belle packing, Nokia device. Not too shabby for an OS which was widely considered as being on its way out.

Microsoft Apps for Symbian get announced, we rub our eyes - GSMArena.com news

Talk about excitement for Symbian users who do not want to make the jump to Windows phone. Good move?

Very good move. Multiple Exchange accounts - finally!

This will serve as a bridge for existing Symbian users into WP7.. at least that's what Nokia-Soft would want!

Symbian Belle looks really really good! And now this. If I get a 10k Symbian Belle device with 3.5" screen and 5MP cam, I'm sold. Sorry Android :P

^^ Symbian belle looks good and with the price of their upcoming handsets plus Microsoft Apps, I will get one also.

You might get that, but you almost certainly won't get a 5MP AF camera :P

You stole the words right outta my mouth. How stupid of Nokia to still offer the FF cams even in premium 18k+ devices

Yeah. Forget UI, lack of apps, low RAM, etc. The EDoF camera has been Nokia's biggest drawback lately.

Wonder why they stopped it. N79, N82 etc etc all came with AF 5 MP

True. Inspite of telling a friend not to go for Nokia, he went ahead. So, brand Nokia still sells.....unfortunately!

But then, I will have the last laugh! When he tries to take close up shots(newspaper clipping/business card/etc.)/macro photography!

Microsoft Apps is total BS. Mostly will be some sort of crippled thing.
