PC Peripherals Mobo + Graphic Card Choice

Guys,
As you know I had taken help to build my rig from this forum. I had the following setup:

ASUS A8NVM : 3700 1 week ago (today computer empire selling same mobo at 3500 :( )
AMD 3200+ Core: 5400

Long story short, I had bought a 7300GT graphic card from BIG DDR 2, 256 MB for 4.75k. Now the card is not compatible with my motherboard. It works fine on every other mobo, and other cards work fine on my mobo, but not 7600GS or 7300 GT. Treid 6600 GT 128 MB DDR 3 and that works fine with my mobo.

So now I have 3 choices, shell out 600 Rs and get an MSI MSI RS 482 M4 ILD mobo. He is charging me 4.3k for mobo and market price is 4.1k, but I guess since its my problem, I have to get ripped off 200Rs. As I am tired of going to Nehru Place now.

Option 2, buy 6600 GT 128 MB DDR3 and pay 1800 Rs as difference and keep my existing mobo.

Option 3 return my graphic card, take back the money. Change my mobo and use the integrated graphics of MSI board, it also has a built in TV Out. Since I am using this rig primarily for movies and not gaming, I guess onboard ATI would suffice. With 4k left, I can probably by extra RAM???

What say guys. I was leaning towards option 3, but dad suggested I should keep the graphic card.

Also graphic card and mobo bought from 2 different shops. Computer Empire in Nehru Place sold me the rig, and they suck. Making money and ripping us off, no service. However the Big Byte distrbutors in Nehru place are willing to give money back as well. Great to talk to and treat ppl as well.

So tell me guys, what should I do, and how good is this mobo.

Guys, HELP!!! The choice is between a motherboard (MSI) that cant be overclocked but supports 7xxx series graphic cards

OR

Asus mobo that is beauty to overclock but supports only 6600 GT but not the 7xxx series Nvidea graphic cards.

Price wise I can go for either of the following combos:

7600 GS 256MB DDR 2 + MSI 482 mobo

OR

6600 GT 128MB DDR 3 + Asus A8NVM mobo

Both have pros and cons. MSI cant be overclocked and lacks support for SATA II....

On the other hand 7600 GS outclasses 6600GT.... and is 250 bucks cheaper as well..... HELP!

Whad do you mean not compatible ? I havent heard of any such issues where a video chipset of one company is incompatible with a mobo chipset of the same company..
What happens when you insert the card, provide more details like PSU, Ram type etc...

why shouldnt the asus support the 7 series ? seems a bit wierd to me .. any pci e card should work right

Flash the bios asap. will solve ur problem.
as in my new bios a8n32 sli deluxe on asus sites they have depicted "added suport to 7900 series or w.e."i forgot.
so update bios asap.

Guys I have updated to the latest 902 bios from Asus website. Still same problem. Problem is that if I put any card 7300GT or 7600GS which are working on my PCIE slot on ASUS A8NVM and disable onboard graphics to boot from the graphic card.... my monitor either becomes idle or shoes a zigzag or mostly blank screen. These cards work fine on other systems....

If I put 6600GT on my mobo, than it comes to life just fine. So have reloaded bios, OS, and spent 2 sleepless nights... I have nailed down my options to the following:

1) Replace 7300GT (4700 Rs) with 6600GT 128 MB DDR 3 and pay 1800 Rs as the difference and as 6600 GT is for 6.5k

2) Change the motherboard from Asus A8N VM to MSI 482 ILD and pay 500 Rs as the difference as MSI 482 ILD is coming for 4.2 k as opposed to ASUS that I bought for 3.7k

3) Change the motherboard from Asus to MSI (500 Rs) and replace 7300 GT (4700 Rs) with 7600 GS (6250 Rs) . Total shelled out 1750 Rs.

Tell me what to do.... Thanks guys for the help. Also I dont think its a hardware issue, most likely bios issue, so no point checking out another A8N VM... as my mobo can read 6600 GT and ATI 1300 Pro etc just fine. And the 7xxx series card work fine on a differnt board just my board cant read them.

Only glitch I am getting here is that MSI board apart from being expensive, doesnt support overclocking, doesnt support SATA II.... etc. So should I just keep my mobo and go for 6600 GT? What say.

Also I have updated my Bios to beta 902 version, I than tried installing the 702 using ASUS update and it said that I need to flash bios in dos mode as the version being installed is older than my current version. However I dont have a floppy disk, so how do I flash the bios usinng CD?

How much is the X1300 Pro? You could go for that as well and keep your current mobo. Since you wanna watch movies, AVIVO will be really helpful. DVDs look way way better with AVIVO enabled.

Just search on google about blank monitor new pcie card, and you will see thousands of threads about compatibility issues, bios issues, onboard vga drivers conflicting with pcie card issues etc. I am not the first one  to go through this crap. Anyways guys, decision time tommorow, so please give your suggestions.... As I am just a newb trying to google out as much as I can to make a decision.

Guys, while browsing DeltaPage website I found Gigabyte Mobo :

ASUS A8N-VM nF51,V,S,L,16xPCX: 3850 (3500 Rs Nehru Place Price, 3700 I bought)

Gigabyte K8N51GMF nF51,V,8C S,GL,16xPCX: 3750

MSI RS-482 ATi,V,S,L,16xPCX,8Ch: 4800 (4200 Rs Nehru Place Price)....

Now considering Asus is not working with graphic cards, I was thinking of paying 500 Rs extra to go for MSI. With Gigabyte, I can probably just get it free of cost replacement, however how good is it compared to MSI and Asus.... Its priced the lowest but supports SATA II unlike MSI, and has Firewire unlike Asus... It has overclocking features in BIOS as well unlike MSI... Than why is MSI so costly? Is it a good deal to go for MSI? Guys please give me the correct direction. One long night before I finally get my PC ready.

Thanks Chaos.... but leaning towards 7600 GS as its just 1250 bucks more than X1300 and completely outdoes 6600 GT. So now it boils down to choice between Gigabyte Mobo K8N51GMF and MSI RS 482.... Few questions:

1) Why is MSI expensive even when it cant be overclocked and doesnt support SATA II
2) How big adv would SATA II drive give over SATA I in the future... I know the numerics of 150 MB/s vs 300 MB/s but how does it translate to actual usage
3) Will a SATA I capable mobo, be able to take a SATA II drive... what if SATA I become non existant in the future
4) Why is Gigabyte so cheap compared to ASUS and MSI....
5) Is it possible to run an Nvidea PCIE card on a ATI chipset based motherboard?
Thanks for your response.

I just don't get the fact that you want a card primarily for watching movies and are not buying an ATI card when the NV card scores horribly in terms of image quality of video playback. About the other things
1) Probably the RS480 chipset is old and costs more to produce or else its just that vendors here sell more A8N-VM mobos than the MSI and hence are able to offer a lower price cos of larger volumes
2) None whatsoever unless you stripe 4 drives or something
3) Yes
4) Gigabyte low end mobos are made in india in goa. Not sure if this one is but typically gigabyte always costs less than asus.
5) Yes that is possible and so is the vice versa.

Chaos, thanks for the input on video quality. However I do game sometimes, but not as much as I used to, specially as I cant play BF1942 online in India.... like I used to in Europe. Also in terms of gaming, 7600 GS not only outdoes 6600 GT but also X1600 Pro, so it will beat X1300 normal by a huge margin in gaming.
If movies on TV is the only criteria, than I guess I should just use the onboard video of the MSI ATI 200 based chipset. As it has a TV out. However since I have decided to go for a GPU, I might as well go and get a decent one. What say? I know with my requirements even a 7300 GT is fine, but than why buy 7300GT when 7600 GS is just 1.5k more. Does it make sense? Even from resale point of view? Or future point of view?
Lastly the MSI mobo is more expensive even on newegg. So I guess its same here. I have just read that its BIOS doesnt give you option to overclock unlike Asus. But I guess thats something I just have to live with.

Dude even i have same config
ASus A8n-VM and AMD 3500+ with BIG 7600GS 256Mb PCIe card, purchased on 14th july. Even i am getting same problem. PC just does not boot when the card is in, not even single beep.
PLZ help, as i can't cahnge the GFX card.

Id recommend you keep the board, return the card, take the cash back. As you said you wont be gaming much, i believe the onboard gfx are sufficient for you..you can always add a better card later on if/when you feel the need..
