Hi all,

I am really in lots of doubts. I am gonna upgrade after July 22nd. Here are the things I have decided for sure,

1. Geforce 8800GTX

2. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or Core 2 Duo 6750 or 6850

I am really confused in deciding the correct MOBO.

I DO WANT TO FUTURE PROOF for next 2 yrs at least. I mean i am ready to change the graphics card or processor down the line, but not the MOBO.

Please tell me what would be a correct decision at this point of time:

choice - 1. Get the P35 based chipset with DDR3 support. Asus P5K3 deluxe, or premium (with 2 gb ddr3 onboard) or Blitx Extreme maybe.

Advantages - I get DDR3 support and PCI Express 2.0 slot + 45 nm support

Disadvantages - I loose SLI and also will have to buy more expensive DDR3 modules

choice - 2. Get the P35 based chipset with DDR2 support. MSI P6N Diamond or Platinum, or Asus P5K Deluxe etc.

Advantages: I get PCI Express 2.0 slot + 45 nm support + Will be able to buy existing DDR2 RAM which is cheaper

Disadvantages - I loose SLI and DDR3 support (i dont know how bad it is, to loose ddr3)

choice - 3. Get Nforce 680i SLI Chipset. MSI P6N Diamond or Asus P5N32E sli.

Advantages: I get SLI + a Trusted chipset that everyone has used a lot.

Disadvantages: I loose DD3 + 45nm support + PCI Express 2.0 slot

So please help me in making a perfect decision.

1. Is it advisable to go for DDR2 now, or are DDR3 soon gonna be the standard. Is it worth spending a lot on DD3 as of now.

2. There is a MOBO - Asus P5K3 Premium/Wi fi that comes with 2GB onboard DDR3 RAM. Is it advisable to go for such a MOBO. I mean there is no scope for future RAM expansion. But 2GB of DDR3 should be more than enough for everything i guess. Or is Blitz Extreme or P5K3 deluxe a better choice.

3. Please tell me if having SLI is worth it or not. And also the FUNDA behind PCI Express 2.0 slot. I know that the slot is backwards compatible. So if i have the slot, i wont Loose anything. But if i dont have it, I *MIGHT* loose the support for future cards which is a NO NO .

So What do you ppl recommend from the above mentioned 3 choices. If i decide on P35 chipset, then the main problem will be deciding between DDR3 or DDR2 variants. Unless i get the one with the onboard DDR3. but then i loose future expansion..... I AM DAMN CONFUSED.

And tell me SHOULD I WAIT TIL X38 or Nforce 7 comes out so that i get all the features of P35 + SLI. BTW will X38 support SLi as there are speculations and rumors all over the net. but then --- I AM TIRED OF WAITING, I WANT TO GET THIS OVER WITH :@ for once and for all. but after spending a LAC if i get to know that i cant put a Geforce 9 on my PC, then i might kill myself. So please HELP me ppl.

Thanks a lot

I would recommend choice no. 2, AMD has said that they are not going to include DDR3 support as of now, since consumers have not asked for it, now there is a fair possiblity that DDR3 would not go mainstream for the next 1 year or maybe 2 years + tests have not shown great benefits of DDR3. but if you think u may need SLI in the future then go for option no. 3. As far as PCI-Express 2.0 is concerned, again i dont think you would be loosing out a big deal. GC's have not been able to fully utilise AGP's bus bandwidth, leave alone PCIe.

But i think final decision has to be made by you. Keep reading reviews and test results and then make your decision depending upon your requirement.

If you can WAIT for x38 then do, with Penryn's the rig be much faster at same clock speeds.

Else if you have buy rite NOW go with P35 + DDR2

Like you said, you are ok with 2 yrs m/b support. and DDR2 isnt going anywhere soon. I mean DDR is still in market (and TE Market section). You can always upgrade to more RAM atleast for 1.5 to 2 yrs down the line.

2GB may seem enough for now but its not gonna be 2 yrs down the line.

Why dont u get one with both ddr2 and ddr3 :P
There are a few of em as i remember .

Yeah like:
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
Asus PK5C (not yet available)
MSI P35 Neo Combo

The Asus supports xfire

Just remember with these that you can't use both DDR2 and DDR3 at the same time, only one type of RAM at one time can be used.

Yeah, I was aware of that, but then i will get stuck with 2 ddr2 slots and 2 ddr3 slots. Anyways, all these Combo MOBO's lack other great features found on the flagship ones. And i want a high end one. I check out the combo deals but the MOBO's werent that great.

Please tell me one more thing. I read more on Blitz Extreme. It comes in 3 flavors. And one of them has DDR2 (other 2 are DDR3 based). Any idea how good this MOBO will be and its availability and cost in India ???? It seems to be a nice MOBO.

And any reviews on the MOBO with onboard DDR3 are also welcome. Is it a recommended board or not ??? Though i think many have advised me to stick to my choice 2. So i think i will do that.

Just one final thing:

What will X38 have that P35 currently lacks. There are rumors that it will have SLI. But apart from that What is the difference between current P35 and upcoming X38 ???

Thanks

Which mobo will that be, can you tell me the exact model :)

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R

Asus PK5C

My friend told me Rashi Peripherals has Asus PK5C for 9.4k

^^ P5KC actually seems to a nice MOBO. Gurus here please give me your opinion. Out of these, which is the most recommended and why :

1. P5K Premium (DDR2 only) - Black Pearl Edition

2. Blitz Formula (ROG series, DDR2 only)

3. P5KC (both DDR2 and DDR3)

4. P5K Deluxe or P5K-E (again both DDR2)

Please bear with my questions, but seriously i am confused !!!!!!

And also answer this question i already asked

What will X38 have that P35 currently lacks. There are rumors that it will have SLI. But apart from that What is the difference between current P35 and upcoming X38 ???

I think the only high end will be the X38. Some enhancement for the memory controller perhaps in the same manner as 865-875, or 965-975X.Another difference betwee P35 and X38 is that the latter supports dual PCI-e x16 at full speed.
