I have this weird prob in Word, whenever I try to insert any pictures into a doc, the programme hangs up and someties I need to hardboot. ow the strange thing is I can insert pictures from My documents, but if I try to insert from desktop or any other location. The app just hangs.

I have tried re-installing the software nogo there.
 
Yeah Saumil's right. I think that's the problem Aces. But then again, why would it only hang only in MS word? Try viewing the thumbnails of the same folder in explorer and see what happens.

but after that what I've tried aslo was to open a document with image

(by clicking on *.doc in explorer), (or copy image from somewhere else

and paste it in new word document) and then close just the document,

not the whole word application. Then create new blank document and

after that you can insert picture from file ;))

Also what I've tried was to modify normal.dot by putting an image on it

and save it. And then when you open word or create new document it will

be with this image, delete it and do what you want to do including

also check if your video card drvier proper. You can test if you are video driver issues by sliding down the acceleration on your adapter, control panel, display folder, settings tab, advanced button, troubleshoot tab, slide the acceleration down a couple of notches. If this solves your issue, go to the manufacturer's web site and look around for an upgraded graphics driver.
 
Does it crash even on drag n drop(from desktop) or only when you use the insert button.

Just shooting in the dark - disable any a/v you have and try.

Also, you mentioned sometimes you have to hardboot - what about other times - any error is displayed.

Infact it hangs whenever I try to insert any file or image from anywhere else other then Desktop.
Have no A/V installed.
And no error message received it just plain hangs, have Ctrl + Alt del it, or hardboot.
@Bosky, I dont think its a video card issue, as games are running alrite ( have a 9800 pro)
@bottle, no I am trying to insert jpegs.
@ Sawmill what exactly and how did you do it ? As even I think the thumbnails are giving issues.
 
Windows makes a hidden thumbs.db file inside folders containing image files which holds thumbnails of all the images in that folder.
This is done to prevent remaking thumbnails everytime a folder is opened but sometimes the thumbs.db files get corrupt. Just delete them and windows will make new ones.
 
^ What saumil is saying is - first enable show hidden files from folder options, go to the location you have your jpegs's delete the thumbs.db file - open your Word file - try dragging the image now from that location - see if it works.

If it works - good job saumil - excellent solution ;)
