MS Windows defender- keep it or uninstall it

Windows defender apart from hogging system resources is it any good.As far as removing spyware I use adaware personal and spyware blaster[runs in the background].Nod 32 antivirus is doing a pretty good job as well in case of malicious content over the internet.Plus I am running zonealarm security suite now with all this is the microsoft software[defender] required additionally.

Also is there anyway I can stop defender from its daily scan process.

Ps: My os MS windows xp sp2

Windows defender is an extremely good anti spyware. The best part about it is it's real time monitoring. You might think it is useless now but you never know when you might need it. And it dosent really eat that much memory 4-5 mb max.

To turn off auto scanning open windows defender from the start menu. Then click on tools----options-----uncheck automatically scan my computer.
 
SORRY for OT,

Can you please suggest me how to Remove Win Defender Icon from Right Hand side of Status Bar i.e. Near to System Date?

I use msconfig but no help?

Windows defender doesn't EAT up my ram and has not given me any trouble since i have installed it.....

BARING some UPDATING ISSUES...which are solved in the WINDOWS update releases
