I bought MSI nvidia Gtx 280 on 5th Dec 2008 (actually I bought 2 of those, one is sold). My card started to overheat for last 2 months. The temps rose to 98*C within 6-7 mins of furmark with good ventilated case. MSI is not accepting that the card is overheating and is declining the warranty.

Please guide me on this issue.

Here is the communication b/w me and MSI ( MSI Online Customer Service )

Oh sorry, I missed that from the Ist post.

To me definitely looks like a candidate for RMA, 98 degree in 6-7 minutes is really hot, that too in winter.

I think one TE member knows guy in MSI (sunnuboi IINM). You may want to check with him.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will contact sunnuboi IINM.

The problem with MSI service center is that they say that this temps are OK ( max temps for the GTX 280 is 105*C)!!! I cant understand is why cant they see that the temps during the winters and that too within 6-7 mins of furmark is way too high.

Thank you for your reply. I can't find a member with the name 'sunnuboi IINM', are you sure the name is correct?

I would check the contact of the heat sink, but how can your card just start to overheat suddenly, did you drop it or something?check if all the screws are tight.

The card was not taken out of the CPU for 2 years and no it was not dropped. Currently the card is with MSI service center, Okhla.

Very High temps can also be a result of dust clogging in the heatsink fins. My gpu have upto a 25deg raise in temp when a lot of dust accumulates inside.

The CPU was kept in top notch condition and was cleaned every week (as can be seen in the pic in communication page)
