MTNL slashes broadband tariff by 50%

The above statement is true but thats were the good news(which seems so) ends atleast for Mumbai users...:mad: :mad: Read below

State-run Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today said it has reduced its broadband charges by 50 per cent in order to increase its broadband consumer base in the city(New Delhi):mad: :mad:

"We have slashed the charges of our broadband service in the national capital by up to 50 per cent," company Executive Director (Delhi) A K Arora told reporters here.

The PSU announced a plan that will offer customers high speed (2 mbps) Internet access at a monthly rental of Rs 99 and 150 MB free download. Alternately, users can opt for a monthly rental scheme of Rs 149 with free download of 400 mb.

These plans will be available from August 15. It has also reduced the monthly rental of another tariff plan by 34 per cent from Rs 899 to 599 that would be available to customers from September 1.

Currently, MTNL has 2.6 lakh broadband customers in Delhi.

Arora said the reduction in tariff will be effective from August 15 for new customers. And for the existing customers, it will be available from September 1.

256 Kbps = Rs 599/- (earlier it was Rs 799/-)
512 Kbps = Rs 1299/-

this is gr8 news. i hope they apply d same in bombay soon..

(C) Following plans are being closed with immediate effect. Migration to these closed plan from other plans and new booking to these plans are not allowed henceforth.

They are closing 749NU !! :O :O Guess they can't handle all the free downloading... sad
 
What the? It can't be true.My downloading life depends on the 849 NU plan.If they pull the plug on it then god help them.:mad:
 
sad news for peeps on mtnl broadband. all of u should switch to airtel imo. or send a email asking why the same tariff cannot be kept for mumbai city.

They won't pull the plug....

No new customer will be added in th plan but existing customers can continue....

so they can have different rates in different circles...

Even Airtel is doing that Check Airtel CG rates they are giving 256K for 699.....

But still best of luck

BTW Funky, I've just moved to Khargar, in Navi Mumbai. Which ISPs are available here? Didn't want to start a new thread for this therefore posting OT.
 
My friend in Kandivali doesn't have a choice beyond MTNL and the charges are extortionist compared to other providers. There is no reason for basic 256 to be 2500 when its 700-900 everywhere else from other providers including BSNL and now MTNL Delhi itself. Isn't there something a body like TRAI could do?
 
if u guys are gonna start something on the tariff rates in mumbai , please also add that they have to start their services in Seawoods Sector 44 , nerul . :(
