Would someone please comment. Latency seems a bit high.

Also, I was trying to tweak my connection ( I use Win Me ), current settings :

MTU = 1464 + 28 = 1492 ( as per dslreports "How do I optimize my MTU and RWIN settings" here : http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6266 ).

TCP Receive Window = 65535 ( I just could not get the dslreports tweaks test to complete, so I used a value suggested by Navas Cable Modem/DSL Tuning Guide here : http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/ )

These settings have really made a difference. I now get max download speeds of more than 28 kBps at times. It used to be 25 kBps before I used these settings.

However the latency timings seem a bit high. Could other forum users post ping and tracert results please. ( If we all used the same commands as above it would be nice. )

Thanks.

PoBoy,
I am using MTNL triband,and get a download speed of only 20+.Please tell me what should I do step by step so that I can also get a speed of around 25+.
I went to the dsl reports,but did not understand what to do.So request you to help me here.

I often get an error, page cannot be displayed.I have changed the DNS server also but even then I get error manytimes.But after changing the DNS errors occurs less.Can you suggest me some good DNS? I have tried treewalkdns also.But not satisfied.

Last, in this forum I haveread many where abt DC + server , where one can share files etc.Can we MTNL users also have such thing???

Just found out that it is better to set the TCP Receive Window to an even multiple of MSS, the Maxmum Segment Size. MSS = MTU less the size of the header and trailer information. That is, MSS = MTU - 40.
Accordingly I have set TCP Receive Window = 63888 ( 1452 x 44 ).

First of all I'm using Windows Me. I don't know what OS you have.

In short, download the DrTCP program and set MTU to 1492 and TCP Receive Window to 63888.

Important : choose the right adapter ( at the bottom of the DrTCP window ).

See http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/broadband/connectionoptimisationii.html for help.

I haven't changed the DNS settings, 203.94.227.70 & 203.94.243.70 works fine for me.

I haven't used DC++.

There are many things you don't have control over for example how far from the telephone exchange you are, the quality of the line, etc. From what I understand, all these will affect your connection speed. I'm no expert, maybe someone else can help.

Come on guys, can't one of you post the results of ping and tracert with your connection ? I would really like to compare the results with mine.

Thanx.

Sorry for going on and on ...

I changed the TCP Receive Window to 46464 ( 1452 x 32 ). I've noticed max download ( and upload ) speeds of more than 30 kBps. Ping and tracert results are much better too. Don't know if this is due to changing the TCP receive window or something else. If you have a broadband connection, guess it's worth tweaking the connection. Try it out.
