Analysis of MTNL Mumbai Triband unlimited plans

Updating my earlier analysis to find the best bang for buck plan.

monthly service charges - 150 (minimum rent plan. incoming only)
service tax - 10%.
Edu. cess - 3% on service tax.

Modem Rental of 50 Rs which was waived off earlier for unlimited plans will be charged now. I have not included it as it is not charged if you are using own modem.

*495 is a combo plan which includes rental amount. This also has free 25 local calls.
**Bandwidth is the total data you can theoretically download in 31 days*24 hours with 5 Sundays.
Assumed that speed available will always what is mentioned. MTNL mentions the speed as "upto" X Kbps for the new plans which is not a guarantee.

Even after the updated speeds, the 888 plan seems to be the best from a purely downloading point of view.

Thanks you MTNL for more bullsh!t, you will not do capacity planning but you will still shove these upgraded plans to the people.

The connection hardly works disconnects 10 times a day, thanks to your 2mpbs bullsh!t since april the connection has never recovered and has gotten only worse.

ohh cool this gets even better, since today morning 8am when the 2mbps is suppose to turn to 1mbps, i still have non stop 2mbps speeds, seems a better deal then u can ask for if they've upgraded day time bandwidth too.

I have no issues on MTNL whatsoever since the time they sorted all the crap a month or so ago. If you are getting frequent disconnection, why don't u approach and complain? call 198 make an electronic complaint, if they donot solve it, use that same docket no and speak to ur DGM, it can be easily sorted. Besides, there is no one better then MTNL or 5NET in mumbai that can provide u decent internet.

I am on the 1Mbps plan and I got around 1.5 to 1.6Mbps yesterday night.

Since they are charging for the CPE now, it is better to buy one from the market or from MTNL. Getting a wifi enabled ADSL modem will eliminate the need of a standalone wifi router as well.

MTNL provides wifi modem for 600 plus 50 rs. rental now. The cheapest wireless adsl router will cost Rs.2000 I think and at least 1200-1500 for a used one. In case of service issues MTNL can't blame the modem if modem is theirs.

I cannot understand why there is so much pricing difference between MTNL and BSNL. My 500 NU combo plan is the same for more than 3 years now.

Just wanted to confirm whether people here have started getting the upgraded speeds in night time? Anything special to do?

Is there anyway that I can ask MTNL to shift the speed reset time in the morning from 8am to say 7.50am/7.55am :S

I recently had to face problems while booking tickets with IRCTC since their ticket window opens at sharp 8am and thanks to the MTNL speed reset that occurs exactly at 8am, i couldnot book the tickets  this makes tatkal booking, which already where hard to get, almost next to impossible:no:

^cannot be done.

In any case, the speed reset should not be affecting the connection's stability. I have played TF2 before and after the 10pm time without any connection drop.

The connection does reset every 6 hours so you should reset the modem once at 7.30 just to be careful that it doesn't reset at 8.00.

The tatkal booking of railways has always been a headache for me too. Most of the time the tickets are completely booked even before the page loads properly. I heard that irctc will be launching a new website for regular customers where the agents/dealers will not be allowed. I hope it is true.

-edit-

connection drops at exactly 10pm. verified this :(

sorry for the error.

yup thats how they've scripted every1's router on their servers 10pm and 8am for the bandwidth reset and every 6 hours on an otherwise basis.

For me too the connection drops at 10pm and 8am and also the speeds go up after 10pm and go back to plan speeds at 8am without the need to restart the modem.
