Graphic Cards My 4870 is fried. Need a new card

Hello folks,

My 4870 just fried and its memIO temps are running at 92 C idle with AC on. DispIO is 52 and Shadercore is 65.. Both the other temps except memIO have been running like this for 3 years now, so that's normal. MemIO used to run at 72 idle. I have cleaned the card again. No results. I re timmed the card tonight, one time without any results. So, I did it again which brought down the temps of shader and dispIO, but not memIO. And now, BFBC2 online crashes in 10 minutes with memIO reaching 120. So, I guess its time to change the card. Which is sad, because I was planning to buy a 7870 whenever it reached 18k-15K mark, but I guess, I'll have to be content with a 7850. Tagging @ALPHA17 and @Gannu for a quick response

1) Which is the cheapest 7850 to buy and from where? Should be overclockable (as I plan to take it to stock 7870 levels, if needed).
2) Warranty should be the best even if it means spending a few bucks extra while buying

I stay in Delhi, so NP and all online shopping sites are within reach........ And FK is too expensive for reasons unknown and they only have gigabyte in stock....

My own research:

1) @arpan selling the HIS 7850 for 14900 + shipping. I have never bought a HIS card. Who handles its warranty in Delhi? How is it?

2) SMC international selling gigabyte 7850 for ~15K. Who handles gigabyte warranty? Any good? Which one is better?

Thanks.

What is up with graphics card these, they are literally going up in flames. First asingh's HD 4890 CrossFire bit the bullet, now your card.

Anyway @atiamd, this is what I suggest --
  • Contact SMC International, they have a large inventory of HD 78** series cards; also they have a deal thread going on.
  • I am not sure about who is responsible for HIS Digital, I am tagging @Shripad he will be able to tell you better.
  • I think the best after sales will be provided in this order -- Sapphire > MSi / Gigabyte > HIS.

Here are a few online links for buying AMD HD 78** series graphics cards --
Prime ABGB / Hardwire.in / SMC International.

I think you should ask Arpan about the procedures and the cover time pertaining to the warranty of the HIS cards in India and whether they themselves will handle it OR some third party.

For Gigabyte and MSi peripherals the RMA service providers are the same -- Digilink Services / Accel Frontline. Reliable guys I have experience with undertaking both MSi and Gigabyte RMA procedures. In both cases the resolution although prolonged was to my satisfaction.

For Sapphire it is Aditya Infotech. No bead on these guys.

Hope this gets your RIG up and running soon friend, Cheerio!!

Tirupati will be handling the warranty of the HIS cards sold by arpan. If you know how good or bad they are in Delhi, you have your answer.
Gigabyte have multiple distributors, so you have to check with the shop selling those cards.
Sapphire are with Aditya.

1. Tirupati Enterprises aka Overclockers Zone, their retail wing.

2. If it is an AMD GPU, I'd go with Sapphire.

Looks like the 7850 2GB is a good option for you. I have used an HIS GPU before - 4870 1GB. The OEM heatsink fan (which wasn't the reference model) crapped out on me and slapped an AC Accelero heatsink on it. Worked flawlessly ever since.

No idea about tirupati. Is it in delhi? I have used powercolor 4870 which never gave me any problems except now, so I really have no idea about warranty. All my previous cards never crapped out as I never used them for more than 1 year.... (7300GT bought in 2004/5 was only used for a year, if that). After that 8600GT, which could not run games even for a year, after which I bought a 4870, which (due to console generation) lasted me for 3 years for the first time in my life..

So, I have found a few 7850 2GB online (Sapphire, HIS, gigabyte). I guess, I should go for sapphire since you guys say that their warranties are the best.. Its too bad that Powercolor cards are not available these days. Not sure what happened to the company...

Anyways, thanks for the replies guys and keep your suggestions about the warranty thing flowing.... Its still gonna take me a couple of days to arrange for funds and order...

I didnt talk to them, but they have athread open here. Gigabyte 7850 is 15K... Does someone have their no. I lost it. I had bought my whole system (actually 2) from them 3 years ago (except the gfx cards and monitor) in 2009, when they were not here on TE. I dont even have any bills etc.. (too much movement delhi>mumbai>pune in the past 3 years for me... sigh)

And, yeah, we can go together....

Thankfully I also am in such a state that I have to mobilize a lot, I am in fact from LKO. Was studying in Bangalore, currently interning and most likely till the end of this year in Delhi.

@asingh, @ALPHA17, I called up SMC at around 930PM which did not ring. I'll try again in the morning to determine who handles warranty of Spphire and Gigabyte. I have also contacted flipkart support via email to know the ETA on 7850. Since, they are OOS right now, I am hoping they will get new pieces for a new cheaper price..

They would have 100% shut by then. Call them tomorrow. Let me know. And Alpha too.

Ok, just received a PM from @arpan. He says that he talked to tirupati and they dont know when 7850 would arrive next..... I hope SM has them in stock or it would turn into a wait game for a few weeks..... arrrghhhh.... I wont be able to play Max payne 3 when it arrives... That is sad....

Ok, called up SMC. Their no. is invalid.. Received reply from FK. They are not sure when 7850 will be in stock. Arpan has only 1 7870 in stock for 22,250 +150 shipping, which is outside my budget... I am kinda screwed over here......If it was not for the excellent power consumption for 78xx, I would have considered buying 560ti now, but I guess I'll have to wait for 78xx to restock.... I hate it when this happens...

I am tagging @SMC-International here, hope they respond to the thread soon. Cheers!!

By the way, here is their sale thread for HD 7*** series GPU's.

^^ I am aware of that. I myself posted that link 2 times (one in the original post)..... :). But these guys almost never update their threads unless someone asks...lol.... So, its a moot point these days whether they have a thread open or not. Like in this case, everybody has a thread open, but they dont have the cards in stock.... Updating the threads is not even expected..

Anyways, for sapphire cards, how is the attitude of aditya infotech? Are they okay? Also, do you guys think that when the new stock comes in, it will be more expensive given the high dollar INR conversion?
