Messa ancient 3000+ with sucky Via onboard and no PCIE slot is a pain, this looks extremely tempting.... for 8k with CPU + mobo + ram....

an old p3 laptop that consumes much less power, easier on the ups therfore always on would be better for the job no ?

AMD proccys are quite efficient. Single stick of RAM will consume less power though as Saiyan said, a 1GB stick might have been better. Shut off one core and underclock the 2nd(if it's possible...donno. I don't have a DC proccy at home and I don't mess with the frequency of operation.)
