My lan died suddenly :S help anyone...

guys a weird problem occured i have 2 pc's at home on 2 floors so couple of days back my lan just died i mean nothing when ever i turn the pcs on lan never starts it shows the network cable is unplugged i installed other lan cards too on one of the pc but then also no kick off.... and i used different lan cable too but still shows cable unplugged i think sumwhere sumthing got diabled but both my connections are eneabled and my comps show hardware is fine n working :S help!!!!
 
use knoppix live cd [on both machine at same time] & check out if the lan is working if not try changing the cable if feasible !!!!!!!!!!!
 
When you connect the lan cable to the card, does the onboard led of the card light up.

If not then the problem is with the card.
 
cable aint the culprit and i checked it useing a swithc and on one comp its working and on the other the leds dont glow suddenly the crad there has become dead or sum other thing has hapened as i even chaged the card on that pc but still no leds glowing but the pc deteects its hmm maybe sum registry entries got currupt, do i need to reinstall the os :S :(
